I agree that Thomas was a humdinger of a theologian, but technically, St. Augustine was the apologist. An apologist explains WHY believe, NOT what. Thomas knew the what sixty ways from Sunday, but Augustine gave us the whys to a fare-thee-well. See "City of God", and "Confessions".

I cant say that he's necessarily an apologist, but the Apostle Paul had the most profound mind change, from Christian Killer to the most prolific writer of the new testament......He may not have changed religions....but in a way..he did.

C.S. Lewis is my personal favorite. He was never soft about issues and was often in trouble with the Christian community for portraying Christians in general unfavorably. For his views in a nutshell, read Mere Christianity. It's a bombshell.

Thomas Aquinas, no contest. His opponents wouldn't even debate him, lest they be reduced to ashes (figuratively speaking of course).
