get it fixed. 1)no kittens 2)your animal is less likely to run away 3)mating in the wild is dangerous, your cat could get hurt, fighting for or with a mate, 4)usually it makes them tamer, 5)usually it keeps them from spraying in the house.

When I was younger my dad bought me a kitten - I don't think this cat ever went to the vet or anything, but she was an indoor/outdoor cat. She had an [unplanned] litter of kittens, and as soon as they were weaned she became pregnant again and this turned into a vicious cycle until she got to the point where her bladder had failed and she ended up disappearing. Because of this, every cat I own will be spayed or neutered unless I plan on breeding it.

I have all indoor cats but I know the answer. People who don't neuter or spay outdoor cats are either lazy and don't care or can't afford it and don't care.

I have 45 cats/kittens (I rescue) and they are all sterilized. Cats are healthier if they are fixed and they stay closer to home.
Benefits of Spaying (females):
No heat cycles, therefore males will not be attracted
Less desire to roam
Risk of mammary gland tumors, ovarian and/or uterine cancer is reduced or eliminated, especially if done before the first heat cycle
Reduces number of unwanted cats/kittens/dogs/puppies
Helps dogs and cats live longer, healthier lives

Benefits of Neutering (males):
Reduces or eliminates risk of spraying and marking
Less desire to roam, therefore less likely to be injured in fights or auto accidents
Risk of testicular cancer is eliminated, and decreases incidence of prostate disease
Reduces number of unwanted cats/kittens/dogs/puppies
Decreases aggressive behavior, including dog bites
Helps dogs and cats live longer, healthier lives

Additional Benefits:
Your community will also benefit. Unwanted animals are becoming a very real concern in many places. Stray animals can easily become a public nuisance, soiling parks and streets, ruining shrubbery, frightening children and elderly people, creating noise and other disturbances, causing automobile accidents, and sometimes even killing livestock or other pets.
- The American Veterinary Medical Association

The capture, impoundment and eventual destruction of unwanted animals costs taxpayers and private humanitarian agencies over a billion dollars each year. As a potential source of rabies and other less serious diseases, they can be a public health hazard.
- The American Veterinary Medical Association
Do you realize that for every 1 person born, there are 7 puppies and kittens
born? At best, 1 will find a forever home.
And don't forget, that every "Free-to-good-home" litter takes homes away
from animals already at the shelter.

STOP letting your pets; or your friends, relatives or co-workers pets
contribute to the problem.
If you love animals, it is NOT ENOUGH to merely say "My pets are fixed".
Vow to educate and enable others to fix their pets too.
Spaying just 1 female dog or cat, will prevent 6 others from ending up in a
shelter the following year.
Please be part of the solution, NOT the problem!
Thank you. ^..^

I have 4 outside cats--all fixed. Please stress to evry one how important it is to have cats OR dogs fixed. I live in the country and people are always dumping out pregnant cats. It really is sad. My parents are up to about 55 cats that they have rescued. They have them fixed-get their first set of shots--as well as their rabies shots. If my parents can do that then ANY ONE should be able to do at least help one cat out and help stop the untimely and sometimes cruel death of unwanted pets. Wake up America--if you take a pet in--keep it and take care of it. It didnt ask for you--you asked for them!

all the cats I've ever owned have been neutered ASAP. There's enough unwanted kittens in the world.

I hate it when people spay or neuter cats... My tomcat had all hig genitalia intact and was wreaking havoc in the neighborhood and hat tons of offspring... He had a real life! Don't do it - treat your cat the way you'd like to be treated.

P.S. due to neighbors' pressure my new cat is both spayed and neutured, and muted too.
