I signed my contract and swore in at MEPS for the Navy a week ago. I would leace for basic in June, but MEPS called my recruiter a week later stating that I had a theft under $300 from 8 years ago, and I did not finish my 24 hour community service sentence. Now i am worried that I will be discharged. My recruiter says he is doing everything he possibly can.My recruiter knew about the charge, but we did not know about the remainig community service, and my recruiter told me not to mention it at MEPS.Could I still be eligible for the Army.?

DUDE, FOR THE 8OOTH TIME, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO!!!!! THE MEPS KNOWS ABOUT YOUR STUFF, SO NO MATTER WHAT BRANCH YOU TRY TO JOIN UNTIL YOU STRAIGHTEN OUT YOUR MESS, THEY ARE ALL GOING TO SAY NO. JUST FIX YOUR STUFF AND STOP WRITING THE SAME QUESTION TO US EVERY SINGLE DAY.

Whoa, your recruiter said not to mention it at MEPS? Not a good sign! I'd think twice about working with that particular recruiter, because you're the one who's going to pay when the truth comes out.

If you don't like your recruiter, you can always ask to work with another one, even from that same service.

Before you can join ANY service, you do need to resolve your community service. Once that's fixed, it stops being a big deal, and you're eligible to join. You would just need to get a waiver for the misdeameanor.

Dont worry, they will do what they can to get you in. If they dont, get with the court that oversaw the community service. Explain to them the situation, tell them you want to make good by it so that you can join the service. They will help you out.
Clean your past up, after that im sure you will be able to get in.

no. you must complete all outstanding punishments before you can enter any service.

why can't just just complete the 24 hours? a weekend should cover it nicely. yes, they will be long days, but it's a small price to pay if you want in.
