I believed that it was the good book till I started reading it.
Makes you wonder if the people who are saying this ever actually read it.

In class you'll have good and bad students. In your family you'll have good and bad family members. Even Jesus had bad disciples. The reality is, wherever there are people, there will be hate and bigotry. It so happens that Christians are a group of people. So, while the aim is suppose to be for all Christians to be Christ-like, not everybody succeeds at it. And you'll find that non-Christians are much faster in identifying bad Christians than they are in identifying good ones. That's just the way the world works.
As for the Bible... it's a very important book which let's us in on God and his teachings. Unfortunately, whether due to lost-in-translation issues or the simple passage of time, we don't understand everything it says and many times we don't know what to take literally and what not to. But the world would be very misguided without different religions having their Holy Books. The Bible is among them.

The bible is Gods word and is good like Him. If the bible teaches certain things are sin and to stay away from them, that's not being bigoted. If a person is a Christian he must love the things that God loves and hate the things that God hates, that's not being hateful. I think what you want of for Christians to buy into the new age teachings that there are no absolutes, No sin and everyone should tolerate all sin. Sorry that's just not being what God has called us to be.

And the rest of the world is kind and loving? Hateful and bigoted is human nature. And the bible is a moralistic book and anything that helps man not be hateful and bigoted is a good thing. I think you have religious and people that truly follow Christ mixed up.

Well, from a non Christian perspective, it isn't a good book. Because it isn't fluff reading, emotional gobbity goo like so many people from the people who live for Britney Spears records to the ones that watch porno films for gratification.
It is a life changing book written specifically NOT for entertainment. It is difficult reading because it addresses things in your life, most people do not want to talk about.
Who wants to talk about sin, judgement, and punishment. However, on the other hand, it gives one hope when the Holy Spirit reveals the meanings and the means as to where the line has been drawn between Life and Condemnation.
Hateful and Bigoted... Because some in their zeal forget to actually study the Word of God. Here's one for you... "Forgive them for they know not what they do!"

Don't lump everyone of one religion together. There are fanatics wherever you go and in every level of life. The power and goodness of a book, be the Bible, Torah, or Koran, is there. The negative comes from those who choose to interpret it for their own fanatical views. If someone reads all these books they would find that there are many similarities in them. Its when people decide to take things out of context and to try to read between the lines that we end up with religious fanatics, whether they are Christian, Muslim, or Jewish.
If everyone could just respect everyone else regardless of religion it would be a much better world.

No, I don't think it's a lie, there's a lot of good stuff in there and if you try to live a good life, it can be very useful. It's only when people take it to extremes that it becomes a problem. Not everyone is hateful and bigoted. I'm sorry you had some bad experiences, but not everyone is like that.
Best wishes to you.

Not all people who follow the Bible are hateful or bigoted. I am a Christian, and I'm neither hateful NOR bigoted. The same with all my Christian friends.
Since your question is based on a false premise, I'm unable to answer the rest of it.

Those who follow the truth of the bible are not hateful bigots. Don't discredit the bible due to human failings.
There are bigots in all walks of life. It is due to ignorance and pride. A superiority complex.

no, its a great book to live your life by. the only problem is that too many people take it as a historical document rather than a code of morals and values presented by stories. aesop's fables did the exact same thing, for every story there was a good lesson to be learned. but no one runs around and says that a fox tricked a rabbit into eating grapes, but they'll believe that an ocean split allowing the "chosen" people to pass, only to collapse on their persuers. i usualy don't answer in this section becuase there are one too many hard heads spiting out their religious propaganda all over the place. this is a section meant to learn about each others religion, not to bash it. that just adds more fuel to the fire.

Generalize much? Are you actually trying to claim that EVERYONE who follows the Bible is hateful and bigoted? You aren't relly that obtuse are you? I think you know better than that. I don't doubt some are like that but to lump everyone into that mold is ridiculous and you know it. Maybe you could actually read it and then decide for yourself whether or not it is a good book.
