My boyfriend and my mum have this. They recently went to see a homeopath who told them they have bacteria in their gut causing their problems called Candida. You need to starve this by not having wheat, sugar, alcohol, cheese and some other things. This woman (who has got a very good reputation with this kind of thing) told them to do this diet for 4 weeks and then to go back to see her as it can take longer for some people to clear up.
At the end of the day, the result it supposed to be that the Candida is gone and their stomach problems (IBS) get better or at least manageable.
You can eat Soda Bread though which isn't too bad, including Soda Farls and Potato Farls. The Farls are quite nice actually - I've tried some of my boyfriend's.
If you don't want to go down that route then I'd suggest avoiding spicy foods. I'd recommend going to see a Homeopath too because doctor's say there is no cure, whereas Homeopathy treats the cause rather than the symptoms. My mum and boyfriend have noticed a big difference.

I have IBS IBD Chrones, the diagnosing for this is difficult though. I have 3 close friends who all have chrones disease so believe me I've dealt with this my whole life. IBS is different for every person in all honesty. I have IBS and some of the things I am absolutely not supposed to eat never bother me. The key to living with such a disease is to understand what your "triggers" are and avoid them. In general you will find certain things that are more likely to bother your stomach, other web sites are listed on the forum here. Ex.s include coffee, spicy food, fried foods. Good luck, sorry to hear it.

Spicy foods are a no-no and anything that makes you constipated is also a no-no - everything else depends on your body and chemistry - try different types of food and go from there - good luck - for I also have IBS and I am still trying to find out what will upset it!@~

Its best to check with your doctor and read up on it. Bread contains wheat and that could affect you. Maybe stick to whole foods such as fruit, veg, brown rice, potato, and stay away from processed stuff and wheaty stuff. But do lots of reading on it, alot of people do suffer from this. I think once you are eating the right foods for your body to handle the pains will stop.

try to avoid rich foods (and bring Immodium if you go to a restaurant). also try to avoid fried foods, cheese, chinese takeways and most pasta dishes. Alcohol can be another trigger as can caffeine. Also, I find it better not to have too much fruit & veg as you don't need the extra fibre. If you eat a few smaller meals a day rather than one big meal it definitely makes a difference.

I used the Jell-o and hot water drink before gall bladder surgery. It does ease the discomfort.
Watch out for red meat, spicy foods, and greasy foods.
