I went to a university and graduated because that was my mom's dream ever since I was young. I couldn't let my mom down.

Going to school IS NOT about learning facts. It is about learning how to learn. Some schooling is training for specific types of jobs. Other schooling, and in my opinion the best schooling, is a broad education which teaches you how to critically think and evaluate the information you "learn." Einstein allegedly looked up common facts. When asked why he responded that he saw no reason to remember something he could easily look up. University/college is not about learning facts but is about developing critical thinking skills that permit you to evaluate the utility of the facts that you do learn. If schooling was about learning facts there would be no difference between the person who went to college and the person who memorized the phone book.

while you should learn in college, it is more about making you a well rounded person, knowledgeable about a little of everything. college is not a trade school, it will not teach a trade but makes sure that you have the tools it takes to get the job and maintain yourself in a quickly changing world. whether you learn or not, studies show tht college grads make on average alot more than non-grads. so it is worth setting yourself up for a happy and productive life. you will also use this time to make friends thta you will probably keep throughout you adult life.

I disagree with your premise.

It's possible that some study somewhere measured that students remembers only 4% of the curriculum as taught, but I'd be certain they all remembered more than 4% of what they learned:
- How to work their intellect.
- How to pace their work.
- How to keep to a schedule.
- How to interact with peers and teachers.
- How to use reference works and other tools.
- How to know what to learn and what to ignore.
- How to find balance among school, self, family, and friends.

Even so, I think people remember way more than 4% of the subject material they are formally taught - I know I do. Of all the words I learned in school (three languages), I think I remember at least 40% of them. Of all the math facts and techniques I learned in school, I think I remember more than 90% of what I learned in elementary school and 60% from junior/senior high school.

Because you learn how to find the answers to questions in your professional life. I am an accountant, I don't remember every tax law and they change continually, but in college I learned how to find the answers to questions. It also exposes you to things and ideas you would never have know you enjoyed. I was forced to take physics because it was the only class available to fulfil my science requirement. I loved it. I came home and showed my husband experiments I learned and now I show my kids.
School makes your world bigger!

One may remember only 4% of the facts, and that varies greatly from person to person; however, advance education opens a person's mind to so much more than facts. Liberal Arts especially provides a diverse view of the world.

lol where did you get 4%? If you only remember 4% of what you learn, you may have a mental disability. I would get a cat scan.

I think is simple : if you don't go to university/college , YOU WON'T HAVE THAT 4% KNOWN and you can't perform without it .
