this is for a friend of mine. i told her how helpful people are here with my questions and she wanted me to ask this for her since she can't get on a computer at work(and she's impatient and wants to know now lol). she is 24, medium/large frame, 5'7 and 208lbs. she said she drinks mostly water and eats pretty well. i don't think she's talking extremely fast weight loss, but i think she wants to do a little more than normal. thanks.

Losing weight is a simple equation: if you burn more calories than you eat, the weight will come off. Start off by estimating how many calories you burn each day using the calorie calculator http://straighthealth.com/pages/tools/caloriecalclb.html This will give you an idea of how many calories to eat. Healthy weight loss is 1-2 pounds per week. To lose 1 pound per week you need to create a calorie deficit (burn more than you eat) of 500 calories per day. To lose 2 pounds a week, you have to double the deficit to 1000 calories per day. You can achieve this by eating less, exercising more or a combination of both. Have her count her calories. I used to think I was eating pretty well, until I did the math. Started counting, and the weight came off pretty easily when I kept within a specific calorie range and added moderate exercise 3 to 4 times a week. I have a medium/large frame too, so my target weight was closer to the top end of the Normal BMI range than the low end, but I reached it, and definately like where I am right now.

She's looking at a Normal BMI range between 121 and 159. At a weight loss rate of 1.5 pounds a week, to lose 50 pounds will take about 7 to 8 months.

Water intake is great! Start restricting calories and exercising 30 minutes, 3 times a week, and she'll be on her way.

This is just what i know of .....
My little sister was over 400lbs she is 5'7" and she went on a complete protein diet. Eating chicken, boiled eggs, salads, etc and she lost alot of weight within a 6 month period. She looks great and has cut down on what she eats after she got off the diet. As for myself i am noramlly 99-104lbs. I am now a mother of 6 children and the weight comes on during the pregnancy. The most i got up to was 199lbs. I lost my weight pretty fast because when i wasn't nursing i would have a slim fast drink in the morning with a slim fast bar. Then a small lunch and a normal dinner. I swim and also ride my horse's and yes run after the kids....lol I had my 6th child 9 months ago and i am 103lbs at 5'3". She can do it with help from you. Anyhow have her try these two things or she can just go see her Dr and see what they want her to try.
Good luck to your friend.

Healthy weight loss is 1-3 lbs a week. The faster you lose weight the more likely it is to come back--usually more then you lost! Most times the weight loss you see quickly is not fat loss but water loss. Your friend might think she eats good but then again most people do. Tell her to write down everything and how much of it she eats for 1 week. I'm willing to bet it's not as good as she thinks. You didn't mention if she excerises or not but that's very important to calories in vs. calories out. Take walks in the evening before eating, get a gym membership...whatever chosen just get moving!!

The American College of Sports Medicine and the American Dietetic Association recommend losing no more than 1-2 pounds a week by combining exercise with calorie reduction of anywhere from 100 to 500 calories per day.

I found the book to be very informative and easy to read.

I've lost 17 pounds in 12 days, I'm just concerned that I'm losing too much weight, too quickly. I will admit I haven't followed the guide exactly. I'm not sticking perfectly to the listed foods and meal plans (but mostly) and doing very little exercise, but the weight keeps flying off.

It clearly works and if I'd followed it exactly I think it would scare the living daylights out of me because of the amount that I'd lose. So thanks again for the information. I've never purchased anything like this before because they are usually full of trash, but 3WD has been a pleasant surprise.

I would suggest weight watchers. It's a way for your friend to learn about a lifestyle not being on a diet for 2 months and then OFF the diet and gaining weight back. It's a healthly way of life that includes eating right, exercising and learning about nutrition.

More info at www.weightwatchers.com

BTW, I've lost about 45 pounds on weight watchers and have kept it off for 5 years. I was 225 and 5'6" so even worse off than your friend.

1 - Make sure you eat clean.( You would be suprized that white bread, rice and noodles aren't as good for you as you think they are., whole wheat is the way to go) 2 - Do cardio on an empty stomach, that way instead of burning carbohydrates and proteins you will be burning nothing but fat! 3 - Get good sleep (7hrs min) New studies have shown that lack of sleep is related to obesity. 4 - Be consistant, dont give up I am not sure if this will make you lose 30 pounds in a month, that would be extremely hard but as long as you keep at it, eat clean , exersize regularly and sleep well you will look and feel much healthier.

This question is asked many many times a day...how to lose weight "FAST"? The answer is, you cannot lose weight fast and keep it off. Statistics prove losing weight very fast have an end result of gaining it back within a short time. The only solid method of losing weight is cardio exercise with a nutritionally balanced diet. The safest and most effective amount to lose and keep it off is 2.5 to 3 lbs per week. Therefore, tell your friend to get on a cardio exercise program and don't hurry the weight loss. It'll come off if she does it correct.

I had to lose 18 pounds in 1 month in order to go to a non-commision officer school while in the army. I did it, and I ate alot of food with little excercise. I came up with my own way to lose weight the healthy way by combining all that I have learnd through out my life. Do this and you will start to look and feel great in 1 to 2 weeks.

Here are the facts of how food and our body works:

Salt - stores water
Surgar - stores fat
Protien - burns fat and aids in lean muscle
Body - 24 hours to digest food.
Activities - heats the body to melt fat.

These are the rules I stuck with and had excellent results. Eat fish like tuna with no mayo it has tremendous amounts of protein and lean meats like brisket and baked or broiled chicken. Eat fat free deserts and food products one day and sugar free products the next day (hense the 24 hour digesting time frame). The only fats you should really have are the natural fats like avacado or fish fat which our bodies need. Drink flavored carbonated water witch is pure and it satisfies the craving for soda. Diet DrPeper, PepsI or Pepsi1 are best tasting diet sodas I found to help with the soda craving as well, but if you can do without them then thats even better. Eat lots of greens and fiber to help digest your foods. Activities like jumping alone will cause our bodies to heat causing the fat to peel off the stomach walls (SUGAR Hardens on the walls with fat!).

Shed about 10 pounds of water in just a few days by having absolutly no sugar intake or salt. Eat tuna from the can with salad and non fat dressing, chicken and steaks.

Remember, it is not how much you eat but when and what you eat. Excersising will defeneatly shed alot of pounds if you stick to the rules above (24 hr cycle). Do not eat 3 hours before bed time unless you excersise after words. If you are going to the restroom more than 4 times a day and your stomach is groaling with weird noises then its working (this is the melting fat leaving your body).

Just look in the mirror and ask yourself, WHY NOT ME?
