Find a vet who will give you a break on the price if you bring in a few animals at once (I wouldn't suggest 7 at a time). It's not a good idea to do this yourself unless you are a trained professional. Also, see if a local humane society or animal shelter has low cost vaccine days. And as other people have mentioned, you have no way of knowing if you're getting the real thing, if it's been kept refrigerated at the correct temperature etc ... And who ever issues rabies licenses in your area won't accept that you did the shots yourself. There are also some serious risks associated with the rabies vaccine, it should really only be done under the care of a vet.

Some thoughts here.

Some of the cheaper vaccines have serious side effects. I would investigate which are the best to use and pay the extra money.

Older animals can have serious problems from vaccinations so many vets recommend not getting shots past a certain age unless you live in a city the requires it. Ask your vet.

Some vaccines are good for more then 1 year. I know they make a 3 year rabies vaccine. Again, ask your vet.

I've seen where some vets have become nothing more then drug pushers. It's easy and makes them lots of money. If you think they are pushing shots you don't need, ask a different vet.

Here is a great book that has tons of information on vaccines http://www.amazon.com/Homeopathic-Care-Cats-Dogs-Animals/dp/155643295X/sr=1-1/qid=1172170819/ref=sr_1_1/104-8483050-1274346?ie=UTF8&s=books

You can also do research online, but the info is scattered so I don't have a link that will answer all.

I think with a little work on your part you will be able to get the best value for your dollar and have healty happier pets.

I have 4 cats and 3 dogs and I take them to my vet at least once a year for their annual checkups and vaccinations. When I chose to have a large number of pets, I was aware of the responsibility and the expense that this would create. If you can't afford a measly $25 per animal each year, then please find a new home for some of your animals.

Also, only a veterinarian can legally give a rabies shot. If you gave your pets their rabies vaccination and that animal then either bit a human, another animal, or was bitten by another animal, legally that vaccination you gave doesn't count. It must be given and documented properly, that's the law. Rabies is nothing to mess around about.

Well from where I live the rabies are to be given by a vet only. You can get the rabies done by a shot clinic that comes to your local pet store. But for the boosters you can get them at your local feed store. I breed golden retrievers and I do all the shots except the rabies. I have never heard of rabies being sold to the public. I would call your vet to find out what the laws are in your area for this shot.

Our local pet discount store gives rabies and distemper vaccinations on Sundays at their store. They are given by a vet (or a vet is there). Vet techs cannot give shots without a vet "on the premises". I believe they do the same thing at PetCo on a regular basis.

Our humane society also has shot clinics once a month.

I haven't given my cats any shots in the last 5-7 years so I don't know what the charge is.

i agree, i definitely wouldn't buy anything online because you have no way of knowing what's in the stuff they send you. also, with rabies shots, you have to get a certificate/tag that says your animal is up to date on their rabies vaccine. how will you prove that your cat or dog doesn't have rabies if one of them bites someone?

i'd suggest calling your local animal shelter. i think most, if not all of them, have their own vet and they offer rabies, distemper, etc. at a very cheap price, as well as spaying/neutering. even if your local shelter doesn't do that, they should be able to refer you to someone else who can help.

You shouldn't be able to buy any vaccines unless your a licensed vet or kennel owner. There are cheaper clinics.. or you might consider just finding homes for a few of your animals. I hope you live on a farm that is the only way you could keep that many animals in a healthy enviroment.

In our state the rabies is required by a licensed Vet due to the Tag that is required.

considering you really wouldn't know if what you buy online is the real thing, i think you should use a vet so you know the dogs are being cared for correctly. when you buy stuff on the internet you never know where it comes from and it could harm your animals. i would rather spend the money to care for them instead of taking the chance of killing them with something from god knows where.

Do you have Tractor Supply stores in your area? Sounds like they only would sell heavy equipment, but actually they sell a variety of things and even pet shots, pre loaded in the syringes.

I just gave my daughter Meg and my sons Stewie and Chris their shots last night.
