I read this and I was just trying to figure out the sense in which they meant "before the boy will know enough to refuse evil and choose good".

Do they mean before the boy is born or before he learns to not do wrong?

Seems like the latter to me.

Isaiah 7
15"He will eat curds and honey at the time He knows enough to refuse evil and choose good.
16"For before the boy will know enough to refuse evil and choose good, the land whose two kings you dread will be forsaken.

Pretty simple, but, I suggest that you pray and get the info from God.

The boy is Jesus, born of a virgin. The Two kings and the father Herrod and the son Herrod, who ripped the kingdom apart.

You should research the Herrods and Sepphoros (sic?), the capital just up the hill from Nazareth where the son Herrod lived.

PS: The timing is based on the age of accountability or becoming a man. Age 13 for Jews. Not on Jesus ability since he was teaching in the temple at 12.

It's before he learns the difference between right and wrong. 2000 years ago the culture was that a boy was trained in the scriptures up to the age of 12, and after passing a sort of test, he was considered able to be responsible for keeping the laws in the scriptures.

That is known as the age of accountability. Infants, and young children are not held accountable to know what a child can't comprehend. There is a time of grace until a child is old enough to decern the truth for his/her self. These are the gentle years when the parent is held accountable to train up the child in the Way of the Lord. Don't see too much of that going on now-a-days, and boy are we paying for it.

I don't think Jesus knew much about who he was until he was baptized and got the holy spirit. Until then he was just a perfect human being. So maybe the scripture denotes that. Because Herod and his son certainly tore the kingdom apart for a while there after Jesus was born.
But I think that it is interesting that Isaiah wrote this in 732 BCE. He wrote that a Maiden would give birth to a boy called Immanuel. 300 years in the future. Cool huh?

Since even back then they empirically understood that a child is not "hard-wired" for much in the way of intelligent thought, long-term memory or moral guidance ability until sometime in the 7th year, this is a passage which takes a wordy way to say, " Within seven years your a** is gonna be grass, Israel. BUT, if you can repent you can not only stave off the bad times you can make good times even better.". Isaiah is referring to the threat presented by the Assyrians and the only way Israel can avert it. But he is also referring to a future threat of a spiritual nature for which this child born of a virgin is the only cure. He's warning not only the Israelites of his day, but their descendants at some unidentified-by-him point in the future.

The problem with prophecy is that it's frequently tangled timewise. I suspect that God doesn't actually speak to them but instead gives them visual mind images and lets them try to make sense of it. "Don't tip your hand too soon or too obviously" seems to be one of God's mottos.

I believe this is referring to the "age of accountability". It is believed that children before a certain age are as yet unable to distinguish good from bad. This age is usually held to be 8 years. So the answer to your question is, no it does not mean before the boy is born.

This about the age of accountability. All children belong to God.I believe we know what is right and what is wrong, but there is certain time when you are really old enough to be accountable. I guess kids can do only for minor mistakes, but the measure changes when older.

This is where they come up with the term "age of accountability" when a child can decide for himself to do what is right and what is wrong

my personal opinion is that it has reference to the age of jesus. being so young and yet having the holy ghost come upon him and teach him what is true and right.
but it is also written that jesus lived in the spirit before he was born, and then again a few people teach that Jesus himself is Lord over 12 planets in the solar system which implies he had to be born elsewhere. So Jesus already chose Good over evil even before he was born. and was approved of by His Father and our father GOD.

You're right. Before he learns what is right and what is wrong, the land will be forsaken.
