Hi!
A few corrections to this. Prepaid cards are not connected to checking accounts at all. In fact..they don't normally have that option at all.

Some sites will not take them at all..trust me..they can tell if it's a real credit card or not. What some examples? Go to ask.com and try to sign up for a advertising account with a debit or prepaid. Go to disney and try and sign up for their movie club..nope..won't work.

Two big disadvantages are that there may be monthly fees taken out of your balance for the use of the card...and there may be per-transaction fees as well.

As always..read the fine print in the store before you spend dime one.

You can use them anywhere Visa is accepted. It's kind of an expensive way to go though because you pay a fee for the card to begin with.

If you buy a $50 pre-paid Visa and try to charge $100 on it, the transaction will not go through. You can only charge as much as you have on your balance on the card.

If you have a bank account and use a debit card you can use it online. If you specifically want a secured credit card just about any bank would give you one and this is a good way to start obtaining a good credit report. You can also go to wal-mart and buy prepaid visas, american express and any other major credit card.

Yes, except you don't get a bill at the end. I've used them many times and you can pay with them anywhere they accept Visa. It gets tricky at the end when you have to figure out how much is left on them and you may have to split a transaction to use up your Visa, but other than that they are great!

They work like a debit card from your checking account. You have to put money in the Pre-Paid card account prior to being able to use the card.

yes..they are like having a debit card except with the credit card advantage.
But if your looking to build or rebuild your credit I suggest a secured credit card..you deposit the amount you want for a limit and the bank holds on to it for a couple years to see if you are credit worthy to give your cash back (with interest).

Pretty much so - they are debit cards.

They usually are NOT accepted for recurring debts, such as Membership dues, panty-of-the-month cub, etc.
