Wine that is sold commercially in the US must have the alcohol content stated on the label. I have seen anywhere from 10% up to 19%. The average is about 12%.

There are a wide range of answers on this page, so I wanted to clarify what type of wines are at which alcohol percentage.

Low alcohol or de-alc'd wines (Very Rare) 0.25-9%
Typical White Wine: 12-14%
Typical Red Wine: 12-14.5%
Riper Red/White wines (Cab, Zin, some Syrahs etc.) 13.5-16.5%
Fortified wines (Port, etc.) 18-22%

Alcohol percentage is almost always on the label, and it is usually very accurate. If a wine says 'Table Wine' it is under 14%.

A couple other tidbits:

1.) Without adding spirits (fortifying) the highest a 'natural' wine alcohol will be is around 16-17%. High alcs will kill yeast.
2.) Old world wines are usually lower in alcohol than New world wines. This is because of greater sugar levels in the grapes at harvest in the new world areas.
3.) Alcohol levels in quality wines have significantly increased in the last 15-20 years. Many wines were in the neighborhood of 12.5% in 1985, while today many are around 14.5%

Anywhere from zero (yes, there is such a thing, az non-alcoholic wine) to 18-20 (for example Port wines are strong)
Typically I would expect a wine to be 8-12 % alcohol.

Beyond 17% alcohol wines are classes as fortified wines Port, sherry etc. However they are stilll recognized as wines and contain around 20% alcohol.

Paul B, Sake is not a wine. It is fermented and brewed. Many experts claim it is a beer, however I feel it should be classed on its own.

Anywhere from about 7% in "special" wines all the way up to about 22% for "fortified Sherries and ports

Most "table" wines that people normally have with their meals for dinner usually range from around 9% (Usually the White wines) and - 13.5% by volume (usually the Hearty Reds).

Sake usually runs between 11% to around 15% by volume for the better ones.

It varies, widely. Between the varietal and the country it is from. It can range anywhere from 12% to 20%. However, wines from California are supposed to be the highest in alcohol contect, because of the heat, more sun and humidity.

Every wine has a different percentage.
Which can start from 0% to 15% or maybe more.

usually around 8-10%

Beer is the lowest 'typical alcohol' as far as percentage of alcohol goes, at around 5% alcohol. Wine is next at around 8-10%, and hard liquors go up from there.
