All the European countries wanted the USA there when the Russian wolf was at their door, and they wanted them to stay, because the USA $$ were filling their coffers, even after the Soviet Union collapsed.
Me, I see no reason to was manpower or money on the Europeans anymore. I'm tired of propping up their anemic economies by taking over their defense responsibilities.
After all, if we look at continental Europe and their diseased corruption they've spread around the world with their imperalist colonies, especially pompous little countries like Belgium whose gift to the world was a Congo continuously at civil war. Once the wall came down, we should have up and left these self-righteous pratts to themselves.
I'm tired of supporting their socialism with my taxes.

The only facilities that I am aware of in Belgium are associared with NATO/SHAPE. As far as I know, there aren't any American nukes left in Europe. We lease bases from Belgium, and your government is paid for that. Seems fair to me.
Rather than trying to walk onto a US military facility (where you have no business being anyway) why not take a stroll on a nice green grassy field, with all the white tombstones in neat rows?
That particular European real estate really does belong to the US, because it was paid for with American blood, and Americans still lie there. And we would come back to defend your freedom again, if you ever needed us to. Although we're not sure you deserve it anymore...

Well being that I ama military wife, and know a few things, I highly doubt you would get shot for "walking" on to a base. Now if you tried to sneak on, or didn't stop when the guard asked you to, yes they would shoot you. How are they supposed to know that the person is not a terrorist. The bases that we have with our allies are for one main reason, that is for strategic purposes. If Iran or Korea (using these since they have nuclear powers right now) were to attack us or any other country we could not deploy from the US, get all of the needed equipment overseas and set up and our service men and women to those places in a timely manner, therefore we have bases in countries that are allies, so that we can store weapons, tanks, and other necessities there. Also so that we can have a place to send our troops to from here, then they can get the equipment and go to wherever they are needed. As much as people like to think it is so we can "occupy" such places, they are wrong, we are often invited by the country for their sake as well as ours and it is better of for most. Now this is not always the case, but often it is.

Hello?? Belgium is home to NATO an international organisation with strong American bias. By the way, NATO was in France until the early 1960s when De Gaulle ousted American forces and Belgium welcomed them.

Why does America have bases in Belgium and Beligum does not have bases in America ?
Because the 101st Airborne and Allied forces freed Beligum from the Nazi's.
The Beligum Paracommando Brigade did not free Washington DC from the Nazi's
plus Beligum volunteered to host NATO Headquarters.

Do you have any idea how much money those bases bring to your economy? Also, I think you are wrong about the ground, I know that in Turkey the Bases there were actually Turkish bases that allowed the US to use. Now I'm sure we have a long lease but it is Turkish ground and guarded by the Turks. I don't think its like Emabassy ground.

I don't think the US has nukes in Belgium, nor do we shoot unsuspecting Belgians. I think your view of Americans has been a little skewed. We're civilized people, and despite our messed up foreign policy, our bases all over the world are actually a good thing.
How's the Congo doing, by the way?

The USA was not at risk of a Soviet Blitzkreig in the cold war, Belgium was.
That base being there was meant for defending Europe in the event of Soviet agression.

That's because the USA has taken upon itself the responsibility of being the global police. Honestly, I don't think it's neccessarily bad that they have bases there. Our military is probably a lot bigger than Belgium's, and we're probably allies, right? Just be thankful that big brother America is protecting your small nation, and deal with it.
I wish it wasn't that way, but there's really not much we can do. Sorry.

Your right - our country has military bases in your country, but your country doesn't have troops in ours. Maybe you should organize a protest to demand the withdrawal of all US forces from Belgium!
