What you believe is the core philsophy of hinduism
I think only ignorant hindus will call you non-hindu
Upanishadas and vedas are the real soul of hinduism
Mythology ,idols, rituals, gods all make just 5% of hinduism...rest 95% is veda and upanishadas
unfortunately some people are only aware of 5% of hindusim hence the misunderstanding

I guess yo uhaven't studied the Vedas thoroughly. Vedas say, the the god is one, it has many forms. All thses idols depict these forms. The worship and the rituals are based on scientific facts if studied properly. Vedas believe that each and every creation the living and the no-living has god within. That is why hindus pray everything - air, water, easrth, stone, animals, treees, and even human beings.
Why does a person keep the picture of his loved one with him even if thier pictures are already in his mind? Just to comfort him that they are always with him. The same way, it's with idols. Just to remid us that he almighty is always around.
Besides, the idols and pictures have hidden messages. For example, the picture of Ganesha with a mouse eating over his 'Laddos'. Ganesha is known to be the undefeatable and also for his apetite. yet he allows the mouse to eat over his 'Laddoos'. The message is no matter however powerful you are, you gotta be humble and give way to the downtrodden.
Each and every mythological story, ethic, ritual has a reason. The only problem is we have never researched it. You believe that the mythology was created for the layman to understand the comlexities of the religion. Then can you give an account as to how much did you learn from thsoe mytholigical stories? You cannot ignore or accept anything unless you have felt the essence of it, can you? Specially when it comes to knowledge. talking about knowledge, if you research the vedas thoroughly, you will simply find that those ancient people were far more advanced than us. Due to our ignorance we have taken a few step against the development of the society.
Wanna know more about these researches or any research over any particular topic, please mail me. I'd be glad to assist you...

Hinduism is not just idol worshipping. Idol's are a form of worship which makes it easier for people to worship. Rituals that you don't believe in is a strong part of the belief, and is written in most of the books therefor I'm sorry but i disagree with you there. I am not stopping your belief and asking you to follow mine. Rituals is a form of praying. But the main thing in Hinduism is live and let live. Just let people do what they want, let them believe in what they want, so they can let you do the same. If you don't agree with something give your opinion where its wanted. I'm sure you would not like anyone coming between you and your belief they feel the same that's why you get weird look when you comment. No one can tell you what you are if you feel you are Hindu you are don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

If you don’t believe in the existence of higher beings such as gods and goddesses and you think that Vedic rituals are idol worship and that Vedic literature is Hindu Mithology, then you are certainly not a follower of the Vedic dharma. The word “Hindu” you will not find anywhere in the Vedas. I would recommend you to read the “Bhagavad Gita” which is the essence of Vedic knowledge since it is spoken by Lord Shri Krishna, who is accepted throughout the whole Vedic literature as the Supreme Personality of Godhead, or Bhagavan.

Why does this bother you? Since most of the mythology is derivied from Vedas for the common man to understand and common man knows only mythology and understands it well, when you talk about vedas it may sound different to them. They see you based on their understanding of mythology while you see more than mythology (vedas). A hindu lives on rituals and believes in rituals and idol worship, he is programmed to see god that way. Not his fault. Perhaps you are seeing a common hindu.

.........you are not alone among Hindus in not believing in idol worship but unlike others you try to tell them that they are WRONG.you are trying to judge others and that too with your limited understanding of Hinduism....you perhaps do not realise that one of the CORE and ACCEPTED principles of Hinduism is belief in ONE GOD ( Parmeshwar ).....the confusion about multiple gods / goddesses appear in western minds because there are no different words for Devi / Devata and Ishwar ( Parmeshwar) in English ( in English it is same, God )....but the same is very well understood by the Hindus........FURTHER.....you are trying to explain Hinduism on the basis of texts and in the process missing the integral part of Hinduism which is Devotion or Bhakti....now the moment you try to talk Hinduism without bringing in devotion you are cutting yourself off with the core of Hinduism......so much for your WHY ?....
Now before you or for that matter any body dismisses Rituals or idol worship as nonsense ( not believing is a polite way of saying this ) one should really study these before arriving at any decision......as for the efficacy of rituals (idol worship can not be separated from it )is concerned, i have seen many of them being effective and have benefited from that ( some one else did the rituals ) but still you can not copy the same rituals ...Daily worship of idols is not rituals by the way.

Hindus worship the almighty God in both the ways...
saakaar Eeshwar = having shape = idols
niraakaar Eeshwar = having no shape = the way you like
people would not treat you as a non-Hindu as long as you do not indulge in criticising the ways of worship by other Hindus...
why only Hindus the God is same for all the people following different religions... we do not have rights to comment on their ways of worship or prayers...

A person believe in Veda pronouncing that he do not believe in idol worship and rituals is contradictory to each other as Hindu do not see both are different. As such your preaching is not conductive to their belief hence your are considered a non Hindu.
secondly your generalisation of HINDU MYTHOLOGY is also incorrect as per the belief of Hindus.

Hinduism is not a religion. It is a culture, tradition, custom, way of life, etc. All well known Hindu scholars and spiritualists claim it. A Hindu is born to Hindu couple in Hindustan (India) and believes in millions of gods/goddesses. Be proud to be a Hindu.

You have a very simplistic view of Hinduism. You are trying to make Hinduism conform to your rather obviously non-Hindu way of thinking. Hindu mythology (or any mythology, for that matter) is not created "to make it easy for the layman to understand the complexities"! There is much more to Hindu mythology and to Hinduism than mere simplification of complex principles. And your condescension is NOT appreciated!
