how old is this coworker, 12? this is an immature way of making themselves feel better about their own faults. don't even acknowledge them. if they see it doesn't bug you, it won't be boosting their own image any more.

How do you if it's not true ? Maybe you are not conscious about it yourself, which is totally normal. Ask someone else if they think the same thing.
If it's indeed not true , simply ignore the comments and respond with a witty wise come back like: flies keep dying at each word coming out your mouth...

If someone has told you that you have a bad smell, then you have a bad smell! Even if you can't smell it! This is a very hard thing to say to someone and nobody says it if it isn't true! Some spices have strong smells and it seeps out your pores, if you don't wear deordant or don't bathe daily, can all cause you to smell.

Anonymously e-mail her to no end! Create a new e-mail account with her name on yahoo or something and send it to her work e-mail address all day with random messages. You could include links about gossip; this may straighten out the problem a bit!

If not, it will drive her crazy having e-mails coming in to her from herself! Use the computers at your local library.

You wouldn't know if you have a bad odor or not. Whoever's telling you is probably doing you a favor, embarrassing as feels. Most of us are in that situation at least once in our lives. Find out as much as you can about the source of the odor. Realize that stress often causes it. If no one will tell you, here's a checklist.
If you hit them all, you'll be amazed at how positively people will respond to you:

1) Hair: (Wash it - Some herbal shampoos from Walmart smell great!)

2) Clothes: Liquid Wisk smells great, but there are also laundry soaps specifically for odor elimination. Use Fabreze on stuff you can't wash, like shoes. Keep a small sprayer at your desk or in your car for "emergencies." Decide right now that you will never wear socks, a shirt, or undershorts for more than one day! Keep an extra "gym bag" in your car or the bottom drawer of your desk for rainy days.

3) Mouth: Brush your teeth, tongue, and inside of cheeks and rinse well each "morning" before you go to work, using a commercial product that smells good. (Save the baking soda and peroxide or Ivory Soap for night use.) Keep Tic Tacs or something similar in your glove box, your briefcase, and at your desk, for emergencies.

4) Digestion: Odors from food you have eaten (that midnight pizza, those refried beans, or garlic), may be leaking out the pores of your skin, on your breath, or out of your pants. Review your eating and toileting habits and whatever is making the problem, save it for the weekend!

5) Skin: In the U.S. people bathe once or twice a day. If you're under stress right now, your body especially needs this comfort. First, use a soap that really kills germs. I used to think I needed a deoderant bar like Zest (Dial doesn't smell good on me -- every body's different), but these new antibacterial soaps that come in a hand dispenser really zap the odor-causing bacteria quick, for a long time! Use an odorless antiperspirant, not a deoderant, under your arms. If you can't "last" ten hours, try: A) Doubling up or even tripling products. For example, you could slather on Milk of Magnesia first (no kidding!) than apply your odorless antiperspirant (see if a brand specifically for men or for women works for you) and then even add a powder after that. B) Refresh throughout the day using "Baby Wipes" (wherever they're needed! grin) or, a wet paper towel with antibacterial soap. Warning: The soap at the sink at work might make you smell worse than when you started, so test that carefully before you get too involved there. If you're walking or cycling to work, you need a really good plan for freshening up before the workday begins. That might include changing clothes, or at least underwear (including shirt) and socks / shoes. If you're hitting the gym before you work, a serious shower before you leave is Absolutely Necessary.

Different ethnic groups do smell different. I don't know whether it's genetics or the food we like to eat. If all this careful hygiene still leaves you smelling different to the people around you, then you may need a "cover-up" scent, like after-shave, cologne. But Don't Drown In It! If it's a spray, spray it into the air and then step into it. Ask your "helpful" coworker what he-she likes. Warning: Don't Use An Air Freshener On Your Skin. Even if you are desperate! It will hurt you! If you're at work and you have to do something about your clothes, Go Easy! Spray into the air and wave your shirt in it (behind a closed door!)

6) Feet. My coworkers had to tell me about Odor Eaters. And then we all became good friends. (There are powders you can use, and Fabreze. Use all of it, if you need it!)

7) FYI: I don't know how old you are, but understand this: A used "Depends" or adult diaper of some kind only lasts so long before it smells bad. And, in my opinion, even an unused one starts smelling after a few hours. If you have that challenge, you really need to schedule a clean up and change every three to four hours. (There. See. Things could be worse!)

Look upon the person who talked to you about this as your ally. If you can, share the breath mint with them, or ask them what smells good to them. Everyone around you will appreciate it!

Douse yourself in a quart of old spice and make it a point to stand close to the offenders for the entire day.
