Are you just applying a color over your colored black hair? If so, then it's not going to work. Color cannopt lighten color. You will need to strip your hair of the color first & then re-apply whatever color you are looking to be :)

If your color is fading out that fast, you are probably using a semi permanent color or demi permanent color. You can try what is called Permanent color, which wont fade but will grow out with your hair, so every 4-8 weeks youd just have to get a retouch. I reccommend going to a salon and having it done professional rather than buying store bought color. Also, I would shy away from completely black, once it permanent black its very hard to get any other color, including brown. Hope this helps!

From experience...it's impossible to lighten black hair unless you strip it...meaning you have to use bleach.
Now you don't have to leave the bleach on that long. Only long enough for it to start lightening a tad. Usually less than 10 min.
Then you can put on any color you want.
I recommend a dark auburn. It's one of those that will looker darker in shade or inside. But once you get in the sun...it'll be a burst of red and shine.

Your best solution is to go to a salon, especially if you're having trouble doing it yourself. It's more expensive but they know their stuff and you'll get the color you want without the headache. What's nice about it is that you don't leave (or pay) until you're satisfied with the result.

That happened to my friend...when you see a color you want you have to go lighter before you go darker again...she almost had to dye it bright blond just to get it back to a brown....Go see a professional...they should be able to fix it for you if you cant!

So maybe try bleaching your hair before you color it. I did that and it worked wonderfully.
