We hear that parts of New Orleans are rather dangerous for tourists, and we don't want to take any stupid risks, but we do want to do what tourists do ... eat in charming restaurants, shop, visit museums etc. Can we safely walk around in the Vieux Carre during the day, or evening?

Please come on down and you should feel comfortable walking much of the French Quarter. As others have stated, stay with the crowds and you should be fine. I have a B&B about 30 minutes north of the city and tell my guests to do what they should ALWAYS do - be aware of your surroundings.

The bad rap the press is spreading about New Orleans is un justified. As has been stated all violent crime in N.O. is related to drugs and is happening in areas you as a tourist would not be in in the first place. There are wonderful tours that will take you around N.O. and tell you all the historical facts. Wonderful museums - historical & the arts, and don't forget the Zoo which is in the beautiful Garden District. Nature lovers enjoy the beauty of the Northshore with much to see & do such as great Swamp tours, wineries, Abita Brewery and marine museum.

There is no way to fit in all there is to do in or around N.O. in just 2 days.......so come enjoy the little taste you will get and start planning another trip soon.

dont listen to LPnerd !!

New Orleans is still a great city ! i live 30min north of NOLA and I go nearly every weekend for entertainment.. for the last few years.. and i've never experienced any crime.. the people are friendly .. the food and music is great..

You can walk anywhere and everywhere you would like in the French Quarter .. during the day. At night you should be much more careful. Dont walk where there is no light .. stick with the crowds.. dont be flashy with anything expensive.. other then that.. you will be fine. The french quarter alone would entertain you for a week or 2.

If you would like to know of any tours .. or anything else.. feel free to email/message me.

The French Quarter remains the main secure portion of city, so everywhere in the quarter is great. next to the French Quarter is Faubourg Marigny (or in simple terms The Marigny) that's secure in the daylight hours and early evening. in case you flow to devour or pay attention music in the Marigny this is recommended to get a cab. magazine St is secure in the day and there are busier aspects of magazine which additionally are secure at evening (Jefferson Ave, Washington Ave, Napoelon Ave). Riverbend is likewise a intense-high quality and secure section (St. Charles & Carrollton). final, Esplanade Ave from city Park via Faubourg St. John is likewise secure and intense-high quality. you are able to't stroll to all of those places, yet you are able to take a bus or a streetcar to all of them. Have an spectacular flow to!

You haven't heard, they had a hurricane down there, they have more than doubled their violent crime from the following year and its only Feb. The toxic stuff is still in the air, only downtown and the Garden District are inhabitable, but people are moving back in anyway, it's horrible there. PLUS, as bad as it is ( and it is unimaginable believe me, those people reelected the same idiot that left them there to die! I have washed my hands! Before you go, read a book called , "The Great Deluge."
You want to have a good time , gambling and shows and music and such? I would look into the gulf coast of Mississippi. Its the same, but nicer, cleaner, and those people actually get your dollars for their community, it shows! Sorry to be so negative...but wow.
