Have you ever thought there must be something more to life than just living day to day?
There is—much more. Your life has a divine purpose.

God, your Heavenly Father, has prepared a marvelous plan for your happiness. When you realize that God has a plan for you, it is easier to understand why you are on this earth. God wants all of His children to progress and become more like Him. This time on Earth provides opportunities for you to grow and progress. Coming here allows you to:

Receive a physical body.
Exercise agency and learn to choose between good and evil.
Learn and gain experience that will help you become more like your Heavenly Father.
By following our Heavenly Father’s plan, you—like all of His children—can someday return to live with Him and with your loved ones. You can have greater peace in this life and eternal joy in the life to come.

Mormons believe all people are composed of a mortal body and an immortal spirit. The spirit is a distinct consciousness that existed before this life. This world was created for the purpose of gaining a body like God's and to progress to become more like Him. Mortality is a probationary state for which we will be judged according to the deeds done in this life. After this life we will be resurrected with a perfect, immortal body. The Judgment will reward each person according to their earthly life--good for good, evil for evil. Mormons believe those that have been faithful can continue progressing forever with the potential to eventually become like God.

I'm LDS (or Mormon) we actually prefer to be called LDS to distinguish ourselves from some radical fringe groups that also call themselves Mormon (those are the ones that practice polygamy - not us).

Anyway, your best answer here is definitely from IPM RM. You'll notice by her link she is quoting from the official website of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on a page dedicated to answering "what is the purpose of life." Very straight forward, and most accurate reflection of our official doctrines.

Thanks
