You're dealing here with folks who think Adam and Eve rode to church on a brontosaur. They prefer their myths to the facts and simply plug their ears when they hear something that contradicts their fantasy. If truth mattered, if proof mattered, if reality mattered, if making an effort to understand the scripture for what it is (theological stories), and is not (a biology text), if any of that mattered, they wouldn't be Genesis-based creationists. Wallowing smugly in their ignorance is far more comfortable than exerting themselves to learn anything, investigate anything, think critically about anything. Creationists are the couch potatoes of Christianity. If Paul had been like them he would have stayed a tent-maker in Tarsus, confident that he already knew more than Gamaliel, and there never would have been a religion called Christianity. I wish Paul had written "If a man will not think, neither let him eat." The church would have starved out these throwbacks by now.

I'm not afraid to research things or to think. As a matter of fact, I love to think. I'm studying to be an Engineer. I read all sorts of arguments by atheists and I don't "close my eyes" while I'm reading it. I have many facts:
You have been programmed to close your eyes every time you sneeze. Your body knows which kind of hair to grow on your arms, what kind of hair to grow on your head, what kind of hair to grow on your face. Why are we not covered in the same hair that covers our heads. Your heart and your lungs keep going irrespective of your will and your heart cannot be stopped by your own will power. If you hold your breath for too long, you pass out and you start breathing again, while you are unconscious and have no control over it. Your subconscious mind also can not be stopped. These are only two organs that work all on their own without any help from you.Your lungs contain 300,000,000,000 tiny blood vessels called capillaries. Your eyes focus an estimated 100,000 times a day and also contain 137,000,000 light-sensitive cells.
George Gallup, a statistician, said that he could prove God statistically. "Take the human body alone. The chance that all the functions of the individual would just happen is a statistical monstrosity."
Even evolutionists precious Darwin said "To suppose that the eye could have been formed by natural selection, seems, I freely confess, absurd in the highest degree."

I was a young earth creationist until I studied the evidence.
It is a seemingly impossible position to defend, even though many people stubbornly hold on to it.
I see the same impossiblities among the evolutionists.
You want the YEC to wake up, but, if you were honest and stepped back and looked at the facts objectively you would see huge problems with evolution that grow larger as we learn more.

An interesting post for those of us who are actually interested in the facts about the history of humankind. However, facts, statistics and hard evidence are wasted on the average believer.

Why do you use carbon dating? For it to be accurate you will need something to compare you measurements. That is to say you need a sample that someone brought with them from say 500 years ago. Otherwise it is all speculation.
It all come down to, "And God said let there be--- and there was!

I am very against ramming God down anyones throat Brendan but I do believe in Him and that He created us above all the other lifeforms on earth, that we did not evolve from primates but were made fully human and higher in awareness and intelligence, I would not go against gradual adaptation of certain species of animals or plants but other than this creation holds for me.

You're wasting your time with rational arguments. The Creation myth is, by definition, irrational. It's like arguing with a crazy person.

I'm still so amazed that people hold so true to these idiotic beliefs. And when confronted by actual scientific proof that their god doesn't exist and that the bible is a fairy tale.. they say things like "it's just God testing us" or something equally ridiculous.
