The right thing to do is to go over to your neighbor and remind him that he needs to update his tags. Why would you want to turn him in? Maybe he forgot. Help the guy out, don't be a jerk.

I'm kind of divided on this one.
First of all, it does peeve me off a little bit that I pay my fees and my insurance promptly and others drive around and don't.
On the other hand, I have had people call me and get very upset that they have reported to police that someone has expired tags and the police have "done nothing about it". I just don't have the time to sit for hours waiting for someone to leave their driveway, or to wait for them to leave their houses. Right know I have two assault complaints, one b&e, a theft of vehicle, fail to remain accident and a child pornography case that are on my assignment screen that need follow up action. I am also required to take other new calls as they come up during my shift.
So......
Can I sit and wait around for hours for someone to decide to drive to the store so I can stop them and give them a ticket? (keep in mind that here in Ontario, having an expired plate, if you have insurance, is a $110 ticket)
No, not really. If I am told that they are on the road right now,and I am in the area, I will try to snag them. They will probably eventually get pulled over and fined even if they are not reported.
Should you get a life? Maybe...

You need to get a life...what goes around comes around...it is likely there is something wrong with your domicile that your neighbor could rightfully complain about, and will actively seek out, now that you have ratted on them.
My ex's neighbors did the same thing, rat him out for expired tags. All my ex did was go to the license branch and get the plates renewed; however, the neighbors that reported it had a junk motor and fire wood in their yard that was not properly stored and they didn't fix it in the 90 days alotted by the citiation, and ended up pay $1,000 for each violation and still had to fix the violation w/in 3 months or face addtional penalties.

I won't tell you to get a life, That's already taken, Why not be a good neighbor and say hey I noticed while I was snooping aroungd the neighborhood for miniscule issues I saw your tag was expired. Ya know I see this all the time on m own. 95% of the people have them in the glovebox and don't want them stolen......How about your neighbor.

Tell the dude to get new tags, otherwise the police may do so in a not-so-kind way.
