I know there are 5 calories per piece of sugarfree gum, but how long would you have to chew that same piece to burn the 5 calories? I am only asking this because I love chewing Orbit gum, but I wasnt sure if I should count these on my daily calorie intake, or if I burn them by chewing them...Sorry if that was confusing. Any ideas?
THANKS.

Yes...you do burn calories chewing...and 5 calories is nothing...maybe 20 minutes of chewing will balance it out. Any movement of the body...down to the blinking of eyes, burns some calories...that is why we need them...they are fuel.

Chewing sugary gum will add on the calories as well as rot some teeth! The benfits of sugar-free gum are so extensive: - Burns Calories (15-20/hr) - Produces extra saliva which helps clean gums and teeth - Scientific studies shows chewing makes you 30% more aware in anything you are doing. Also chewing sugar-free gum after you helps produce more insulin in the body to break down the food. This would be extremely handy for people with Type 2 Diabetes.

I think this would depend on how long you are chewing it. It's probably not worth counting unless you are chewing several pieces a day or swallowing your gum. You can burn that many calories practically by popping the gum in your mouth, chewing, spitting the gum out...

I wouldnt count them on your caloric intake, plus if you chew your gum and then spit it out later....then I dont even think that should count has eating calories, plus you would be burning of the calories by chewing and moving your mouth.

Dear god, you are worrying about 5 calories !? I know celery has negative calories, because chewing it burns more than it has. I assume gum is the same.

Love your body, and don't worry so much about your weight !

It all evens out, so don't worry. Plus, it's 5 calories. It's not like your going to gain weight from a piece of gum, believe me.

First of all, you shouldn't chew gum. Look at someone chewing their gum....it looks like a COW chewing CUD. Nothing makes a person look ugly than chewing gum.

Chew it and get on an excersize bike for five minutes. If you try to lose the weight through the actual chewing, your jaw will probably tire out.
