Getting it OUT is definitely better. A lot of what you cough will make it up into your sinuses and nasal passages. You'll need to flush out the germs there as well.
Try a saline nasal RINSE (not a spray) A full warm water saline rinse goes in one nostril and out the other. It draws out all the gunk and shrinks the tissue (like swimming in the ocean).
The buffered salt doesn't 'sting' as much as plain salt water. You can use a new method like Nasopure, or the vintage, Netipot
You can do this a often as you like with no side effects.
You don’t need a prescription for this therapy. If you live in a state like mine, they’ve pretty much “outlawed” sudafed medicine. Drug-free is really the way to go on a frequent-use basis.

Yes. It is better to spit it out instead of swallowing it, although it doesn't go back into your lungs, it can coat your throat with mucus and give you a sore throat. Drink plent of fluids and take a product like Robitussin or Mucinex to thin the secretions and make them easier to cough up. If you develop a fever, trouble breathing or chest pain, contact your doctor as it could be bronchitis or pneumonia.

Yeah, it's true that spitting it out is equivalent to getting rid of it but swallowing it is also a way of discarding it but through another passage. So either way, you're getting rid of the phlegm.

Yes you will most defiantly recover faster by spitting out the Flem. By spitting it out you are ridding yourself of the infection.

Its good to get it out but ultimately you need to take a whole course of antibiotics. See you doctor for that. It sounds bacterial not viral and if that is the case, you need an antibiotic like penicillin or something man.

what you are coughing out is actually dead cells that your body needs to get rid off.Since you are spitting it out it means that u are getting rid of the dead cells. You will recover definitely quicker than someone who swallows it.

Yes, because it's clearing up the congestion. BTW, if the stuff you're hacking up is green, it's usually a sign of dehydration. More fluids.
