Yes it will hurt, I have tattoos in both those areas, with it being your first I would go the hip area... Thats alittle less sensitive than the wrist...

Good luck

Levels of pain depend a lot on the person being tattooed. I've seen people yell and scream having a tattoo done in a spot that is usually pretty painless, to others who can bear up to having work done on an extremely sensative spot. It all depends on the person's tolerance levels.

In general, the places that are most painful to get tattoos are those where the skin is thin, where there is little padding between skin and bone, and where there are large nerve clusters. Some spots that are very sensative are the underside of the arm, along the ribs, the breastbone, the ankle, the wrist, the hand, the foot, the head, and sometimes the spine. I know several women who had tattoos done on their lower abdomens that they found fairly painful, and the inside of the thigh is probably not too comfortable either.

Most people getting tattoos on a sensative spot can surprise themselves with the level of discomfort they are able to endure. When I had the inside of my left ankle done, it hurt a lot but I was able to sit through the entire thing (more than two hours) without taking a break. The endorphans kick in and it's nearly an intoxicating experience.

Hmm... perhaps that's why some of us find tattooing so addictive.

I have tattoos in both of those places, and they are both painful, but really it depends on the pain tolerance of each individual person. I do know that if I had to choose, my hip hurt a tad worse then my wrist, but above all, the tattoos on the top of my foot and on my rib cage were the worst.

my first tattoos (two at once) were on my wrist.
it hurt quite a bit, but nothing unendurable.
i think the hip would be more comfortable, as it is more fleshy, but i don't have a hip tat yet.
more importantly, get the tat you KNOW you want in the place you want first, because you'll have it forever.
oh, and wrist tattoos are exposed, if that means anything to you (made it hard for me to get work in a small town in texas...).

I just got the underside of my wrist done and yeah it does hurt because of the veins being right there. I would think the hip would hurt less as there is a little more fat there or less of course you are super skinny then just about anywhere will probably hurt.

Good Luck

I have a tattoo just above my hip...and it hurt like hell...had it been the first one I got, I would never get another. But it was my second - the first was on my back and it barely hurt at all.

Wow...some people are very judgmental against those with tattoos! Grace - absolutely none of my friends are bums...I'm with the person I'm going to marry and he is a very good person...I have a very good job (for which I'm probably underqualified) and working on a good education. Get your head out of your *** regarding people with tattoos.

the most painful place i have ever been tattooed is the tops of my feet and my spine. i wouldn't get my first tattoo on my wrist. but that's just me.

yeah it will, your wrist has the least fat and its close to bone. Now on your hip it may not hurt as much but it will hurt, i mean you got a needle going in and out of your body thousands of times!

anywhere with bone involved will hurt more, if you are worried about the pain do NOT do your wrist first. if you do the inner hip i don't think it will hurt too bad b/c they won't be on bone but your hip bone is going to hurt unless you are big and have padding.

i belive it won't hurt super bad like others are saying. but i cant say it will be easiy cause i don't have a tat on my hip or wrist. but i do have the top of my back and my right ribcage, which hurt more then anything i can remember.
