Most DVD players can also play CDs, and some can even play video CDs. Best way to find out (if you don't have an owner's manual to refer to) is put a CD in and see if you can play it.

pretty much. i have the saddest dvd player ever that costs $15 new, and it play any type of cd i can put in it. it will play mpeg4 format mp3 cds that my super duper car wont even play

I do it all the time, at the risk of prematurely wearing out the motors in my DVD player, but I do save on space in my home entertainment center.
