It is just a general overused expression by Americans for practically everything they do or see. Superbowl, supermodel, super cop. It is far and away categorizing too many things or people in society. Superstars as well.

Superman knows he has super powers (and uses them), while most humans assume that they don't.....(so they don't use them)
What they lack is "superfaith" and "superunderstanding".
People like superman because deep down, they know they are a superman (or superwoman) as well.
