I have actually had a near death experience....but There was nothing after. I mean you feel a sense of calm but drugs make you feel the same way. I wouldn't turn to something fake on my death bed because I would be out of my mind if I did. I mean god doesn't exist....I might as well As santa to forgive me or the easter bunny...both would have the same exact effect.

The closest that I've ever come to a life threatening moment was when I was a kid and I fell through the ice in a pond, and almost got sucked under. It was a manmade pond with an underwater outlet to the river, so there was a strong current trying to pull me under. It never occured to me to turn to god. I relied on my friends who were there to pull me out and walk me home half frozen.

I doubt that a god could have done better.

The "no atheists in foxholes" is completely false. It is tired rhetoric that theists use because they can't handle the possibility that they have devoted their lives to something that may not be true.

There's actually a group of "atheists in foxholes". I personally know several of them.

I'm atheist, and the odds of me SUDDENLY praying to a god in times of trouble are THE SAME as the odds of a Christian suddenly praying to PETER PAN in times of need. OK???

Did you get that?

IT's as simple as that. God is NO MORE REAL than Peter Pan, and there's NO WAY I'd ever start believing in Peter Pan, and there's ZERO chance I'll just start believing in a god.

I looked it up a few weeks ago, and there is actually a higher percentage of atheists in the military that the general population.

In 1995, I was in a surfing accident. It was the only time in my life (knocking on wood) I have thought, "I am about to die". Not once did God enter my mind.
