A bad day at the races beats a good day at work!

You have a minute or two of pure pumping excitement 8 to 12 times in an afternoon/evening. And, if your horse(s) pay, you might walk out with even more than you walked in with.

You have people watching...try to find who has the largest number of colors in their wardrobe.

You have a connection to history...people have been racing horses as long as they have been riding them.

As far as being humane...no, it's not perfect, but it's not inhumane. The horses are pampered, well fed, groomed, and not subject to wild predators. Everyone involved has a stake in keeping the animals happy and healthy.

My uncle took me to the track at the ripe old age of 3 (my parents never forgave him either...LOL), and I've never quit going! As a matter of fact the older I got the more ways I looked into getting into the sport.

There is nothing like the sound of thundering hooves coming down the home stretch, even better if you are holding a winning ticket. But even as just a spectator, the beauty of the horses makes it all worthwhile.

Thanks for mentioning Saratoga, Thundergulch! that's where my uncle took me for my first taste of racing, and I agree it's my idea of heaven too.

the place did you get your figures from? And do you have faith each thing you're fed by potential of a biased media? this might have been the case, in the united kingdom, years in the past, yet at present Racing is watched/policed/vetted very heavily and that i heavily doubt those figures are everywhere close to precise. And in spite of the reality that this is a multi-million greenback game in terms of making a huge gamble, those horses additionally are worth a lot of funds so do you fairly think of proprietors, running shoes, or jockeys for that count, might enable this to take place, at this point? i'm no longer blinkered approximately this and in fact I hate national Hunt racing through fact, for me, far too many horses are lost throughout the time of leap racing. I hate seeing them are available in leg weary. I additionally might like horses in Flat racing to no longer be raced till they are 3 years previous, no longer 2. despite the fact that, i think of you're being misled with those figures - and portion of me shows it fairly is the subsequent step, after what has been performed by potential of particularly biased documentaries and reporting, to the international of Purebred dogs. It replaced into in simple terms a count of time!!

I work at a horsep Park. Hiawatha Horse Park and Entertainment Center in Sarnia Ontario. The amount of people who come and go there, I never see too many who walk out without a smile on there face.. but make sure you keep your bets low, so you don't lose too much.. its gambling, and believe me, if they knew everyone would win, they wouldn't make the game :P

Yeah, it's a great time. You get the excitment and competition of sports, the beauty of the animals plus the thrill of gambling and, if you are so inclined, a perfectly good drinking opportunity. Great stuff, just watch your money.
