Fast food, busy lifestyles in a hurry up world, portions in restaurants being big enough to feed three people, not getting enough exercise. Everything in our lives seem to have to be "quick & easy"...and that means sedentary, accumulation and gain.

I'm American and I agree, as a nation, we are "fatter" than others. Our culture has very much to do with it. We expect to have everything "right now" without having to wait. We turn to fast food much of the time (which is high in fat and sodium). We watch more television and spend lots of time on the computer.... both sedentary activities. And, we eat food that is preservative-laden and full of chemicals.... unlike the way people in Europe eat more fresh foods. Also, we expect and allow more stress in our lives -- this contributes to our poor health habits.

Mainly because of one thing: portion size! It's not at all a matter of "fatty" foods. Even crab louie salad are HUGE over there!
When I went to the US I was *appalled* at how big plates are, let alone portions! I did put on weight for the first 3 weeks because I would order a couple of dishes (I get bored eating one big dish only), so I would get two IMMENSE portions of food.
Then I adapted, and started sharing dishes with my friends and relatives.

Cause of all the damn fast foods restaurants. The crazy out-of-control portions they serve. Our busy, hectic lifestyles prevent a lot of us from getting enough exercises. Kids now days spend the majority of their time indoors playing on the computers and video games. They don't go outside and run around like they did back in the day. so, that's why. Luckily, I was able to put aside the fact that your a rude SOB. But hey, I have my own stereotypes about certain races. But I keep those to myself. Peace.

I have to admit it...we are! We are addicted to fast food and exercise very little! It all started when we decided to take Physical Education out of schools and camped out in front of the television.
I have to admit it...but being fat doesn't mean being weak or bad.

Geez how much time have you got? Personally I blame several "benefits" of modern life in America:
fast man-made food of questionable origin
the omniprescence of cars and distinct lack of sidewalks
TV
a revolving-door diet industry dependent on the failure of its customers
Sorry I couldn't make a raging essay out of it for you.

I'm not fat so I wouldn't assume the rest of the country is fat.

¬High availability of junky food.
¬Poor education on healthy diet and exercise.
¬Too many short-cuts that make them lazy, i.e. elevators, escalators, t.v remote's, cars, electronic devices that do simple tasks for us, etc.
¬Lack of motivation to want to follow a healthy diet
¬High levels of stress caused by work and social dynamics
¬Unhealthy eating habits handed down from generation to generation
¬Emotional eating- this works in a vicious cycle. Unhealthy food will make you feel sluggish and lethargic, which will lead to depression, which then leads to cravings for more of these same foods... it becomes addictive and corosive.
¬Toooooooooooooo many Krispy Kreme's.
