Could be an infection, ear mites, or any number of things. Generally speaking, ear odor that is foul is a sign of 'illness' in the ear. Go see the vet, your baby is probably uncomfortable!

You need to clean the ears. I'd call the vet and ask whats best in their opinion. They may want to see the dog to make sure its not mites or an infection. It could just be a wax buildup problem too. They will instruct you best.

Sounds like your dog as a ear infection. Take a look in your dogs ear if it has redness or brownish flaky colour that you can rub off, your dog definantly has a ear infection. That is very common with dog with ears that cover the ear, the moisture stays inside the ear and causes infections.

My lab is prone ear problems, too. He gets a dirty brown build up that needs to be cleaned. I am a dog groomer and have an ear cleaner, but my lab is sensitive to the purfumy strong cleaner, so my vet has me use saline (like you'd use for contact lenses) on a cotton ball. I don't think his ear problem smells too foul, but that may just be my being used to the odor. If your lab's ears smell bad, I think you may be right in suspecting it's an infection. I'd suggest brining your dog to your vet. It may be as simple as getting an infection cleared up and then cleaning his/her ears regularly. Good luck to you and your lab!

All drop ear dogs are more prone to infection as the ear flap holds moisture in the ear. Once a dog gets an ear infection - it may not be gotten completely cleared up and that be why it keeps coming back.

I have a black lab and she is the same way. We took her to the vet and they said its just how some dogs are. She has smelly ears. He gave us something to clean them with once a week and that helps a lot. During the summer it gets worse and we have to clean them 3 times a week. Take her to the vet and get her checked out.

Professional advise can only come from a vet. It could be yeast, it could be mites. See a vet.
