Bought a painting on London's Piccadilly in 1978 bearing this artist's signature.

It is not likely to be anyone with that name. I would expect the odds of two people sharing the same initials, surname, profession and place of business to be rather long.

Well, 1978 it could be anyone with that name...but if he was good there should be more of his work about.

A W Ross was an artist who lived / worked on Canvey Island Essex around the 1980s. I know nothing more than that apart from owning one of his paintings.

A W Ross had a studio in Margate in the early 70's. I bought a painting from him "The Tuskers" an elephant scene in the jungle. Still have this painting. He closed down the studio after a year or two and moved on. He must have sold hundreds of paintings in his life.

I have a 120 /60 VMS oil in a heavy frame depicting water with 2 alighting birds and a heavy embossed tree on the left. Very impressive and l love it. Also dated 1978. It now hangs in my darkened entrance in Torremolinos.
