Some people like to run things on older windows.

I'm running 2 PC's, one on Windows XP and one on dual-boot with Windows 2000 and Windows 98.

Each has its pros and cons, and the person who had the computer before you must have had a reason to prefer 98. Maybe they were a retro gamer who played a lot of games that aren't compatible with 2000 or above.

It means the PC is prepared or able to run Windows 2000.

The BIOS and CPU processor has the capability to run Windows 2000.... What you have to do, is install it.

Why it's running 98 now, that could be because 98 run faster on that PC, better performance than 2000 with less memory.

It's probably running Windows 98 because that is more suited for a home PC, Windows 2000 is a business OS.

Sorry to hear about your PC troubles. Living in China, I experience the slow grind of technology too.

Your PC has probably been refurbished at some point, i.e. they took all the good stuff out of it, and then put older technology in again before selling it on.

You try convincing your Mum into upgrading some of the parts - it is cost effective, and then you could watch movies again -

good luck in your new country!

Install UBUNTU it's a free and up to date operating system. Also, all of the programs are free. If your computer has 256MB of RAM get a full version. If less, get XUBUNTU.
