Please don't give me some lame excuses about they are having a tough job. I was a cop before too. I put my life, limb, liberty, career, and and my good name on the line. I never got upset about responding to service calls. Why can't some cops today put up with it ? Afterall, police work is all about being social workers in uniform.

Good Q!

The answer is simple...and you could change 'cops' to just about any other profession.

Unfortunately it's called life...there are some people out there who love their jobs and will do it to the best of their ability. On the flip side...there are people out there that would rather be doing something else, but rather than getting off their lazy backside and finding a job they care about, they just complain a little more and make the rest of us look bad.

I think (hope) that most cops are more than willing to help people out when it appears to be genuine distress. Flagging down a cop after you have been to a bar and asking him for a ride home because you spent your cab money on the last round is probably not going to get much sympathy, but if your case is genuine, there is a good chance they will help you out.

"Most cops"? This is a ridiculous overstatement.
As a general patrol officer, 99% of my job is responding to citizen requests for assistance. I am respectful and professional during these calls. Do I get upset over some calls? Sometimes...especially if the request for assistance is a waste of police time (example: if someone is complaining that their neighbour's five year old ran through a flower bed and squashed a couple of petunias). I do my best to keep my annoyance from showing at these calls, but some of it might be visible at times.

I have had personal experience both ways with police officers. The ones here in our metro area are really some of the nicest police officers who are willing to help you. I had one to help me change my tire after an accident that caused a blow out. They have such a dangerous job, and I know they can appear to be upset at times when we are needing them. But we do not know what kind of situation they have come from where they may finished working an accident that involved a child or others dying in an accident. We need to put ourselves in their shoes. They really have a very tough job seeing everything they see and having to go into dangerous situations.

I never get upset when asked for assistance. But i have to tell you what really peeves me is when I get to a call for say a vehicle lock-out and the guy tells me he's all set, that he found his spare key 20 minutes ago but didn't call back and cancel the call. Or when two citizens get into a minor fender bender and instead of moving their vehicles even though they have minor scratches or dents on them, they will leave the vehicles blocking traffic at rush hour so there is a 25 mile traffic jam. It's not call's for assistance I get upset about, it's the STUPID calls for assistance that pisses me off.
PS. I know you are a TROLL, but it's worth it to answer this!

Becasue most cops when they're young are in it for the action. don't want to be bothered with lame a** assistances like lock outs and jump starts. The older cops have spent their lives dealing with scum on a daily basis and soon see the world as scum. It's difficult to switch from the "protect" mindset to the "serve" mindset in a single shift- especially if you've just delt with a serious or very intense call.

Sometimes we forget to acknowledge the fact that they really really have tough jobs on hand. For every normal complain, they may receive tens of frivilous ones. I guess we must bear with them too, and be patient, eventually theyw ill see the genuiness of a genuine complaint and do their job better.

most don't, now the officer often can't because of department policy change you tire, or give your car a jump, that is what a motor club does.

But also they don't know a law abiding citizen from a lying crook either, so they have to be alittle weary or everyone

I think it depends on the area in which you live in and what they are complaining about and the amount of complaints they get from that person.

Some of these "public servants" feel that they are interrupted from their rest, and get down right indignant. Some of these guys are just plain lazy.
