Coz while they could not prove God, they created a concept of a silent invisible & intangible God ......... so that others could not disprove God.
Shroud a mystery in an enigma & wrap it in a riddle & hey presto you have created a GOD

Whenever we see man going around creating a god, they tend not to create a God like the one in the Bible.
