the H-4 is valid as long as the principal applicant (the H-1B holder) has a valid H-1B. If you have ported your H-1B they will still be valid until it expires.

You can study on an H4 visa. Whether there will be chances of getting an H1B visa after studying depends largely on you. It will depends how desirable your skills are, how great your skills are, and how many connections you got with potential employers through unpaid internships or curricular practical training. If you are on a H4 based on a parent you only can get an H4 until you are 21. If you have one based on a spouse you'll be fine as long as you are married and your spouse has an H1B. The advantage of an H4 visa versus F1 is that you can get state tuition. The disadvantage is that you can't work at all. If you want to do OPT after you've finished you need to have been at least one year on F1. google "F1 versus H4" and you'll find more info.

The H4s are linked to your H1 classification, not the sponsoring company.

This is because the H1 classfication allows the visa holder to accept employment with other sponsors, as long as the new company takes over sponsporship of the H1 visa (i.e. does all the required paperwork).

In contrast, the TN (and several other work visas) are NOT transferable between employers.
