Yes, it would be enough but you have to stay away from places like the Oriental hotel restaurants! Thai food in small shops are cheap and taste good. If you like the hot noodles shops can cost less than 150 baht per person including drinks. That is also if you're shopping in Mabunkrong Centre or Jaturjak (JJ).
Say, Thailand has lots of wonderful restaurant and large shopping malls like the newly decorated Central World, Siam Paragon, Emporium and many other shopping places along Sukhumvit at ploenjit area.
Spend a little and you could experience real treats in foods, clothing and many other gifts or souvenirs.

I am not sure what the value is of an aussie dollar is, but when I went there I went with 400 pounds for 1 month and i covered transport, from north to south of thailand, did a small amt of shopping, paid accomodation and ate out every night. Depends on what kind of budget he is on.
I did arrive in heathrow without a dime. Great Place! One of my favorite places in the world.
That was also 3 years ago the last I heard was prices are going up!
How much is 50 aussie dollars to a baht? If I can remeber well I was paying like 200 baht for a massage, and 50 baht for a beer, airport tax was 250 baht. i think off the local street i picked up a plate of noodles for 50-70 baht, thai cushions i bought for 100 baht...you got to bargain everything, you can always come up with a deal..always!!!

Hi, your 50 AUD will gives you between 1300-1400baht, depending on the exchange rate. If you eat local food, like a noodle or a fried rice, this will typically cost between 50-80baht per plate. So for 2 of you, that will be 160baht, say for lunch. Dinner a bit more extravagant, eat in a restaurant with 3 dishes, say average 150baht/dish. That will be 450baht. Throw in 4 drinks at 30baht each, so total you spent on lunch and dinner will be 730baht.

I assume your hotel provides free breakfast daily. Otherwise knock off another 200baht for this.

This leaves you with 570baht or 370baht (base on low rate of 1300baht you got on exchange) to do your shopping, and you can get quite a fair bit with that.

Cost of living in Phuket is quite high comparing to other parts of the country. Fifty AusD would be around 1330 - 1400 depending on exchange rate, safe side, take 1300 bht.

Normally a coke at 7-11 or at gas station would cost ~ 13 - 15 bht but it might cost you 30 at pub or on street near the beach. 500 cc. Water bottle cost ~ 6 - 10 bht depending on packaging and brand. Food in the hotel is quite expensive as you'll have to pay for service charge and tax which might add up to 15% more (food at local vendors or onthe street are inclusive of VAT and you don't have to pay for the tips unless you want to).

A bowl of noodle or a dish of fried rice would cost you from 30 - 50 bht/dish depending on the area you dine... say 100 bht/meal/person. A can of beer may cost you from 22 - 90 bht/can depending on where you buy (22 from super market, 30-40 at vendors, 90 at pub or hotel). In other words, 50 AusD is more than enough if you know how to dine. Local taxi, minibus fare are reasonable.

Have a nice trip and enjoy your vacation.
