menthol cigarrettes?

Why does the majority of African American smokers prefer menthols. Where does this come from. Serious answers only no anti smoking comments.

i think its because of the taste and habit. but another reason is half of balck america is what i call (gangsterized) thats not even a word. but for real if you listen to alot of the rap music of the 90s such as tupac he talks about (smokin ports) newports which is a menthol cigarette..but as do alot of other rappers.so i think some of black america smoke menthols because they see a celebrity star do it or hear about a rapper doing it..and it might be the "IN" thing to do!!!!!!!!!for them...

I'm a smoker myself (a white woman) and I could never develop a taste for menthols. I've wondered myself why most black people smoke menthols but I've never had the nerve to ask someone.

Pretty much the taste. I've tried the menthols, and i like them better than regular ones, so probably they don't prefer the regular tobacco taste

it makes you feel cool. no seriously i think the reason is because it has a cool feeling down the throat and its my cig of choice during the summer time when the air is hot it cools down my throat.

i've never noticed that. but i don't like menthols. they're my last resort cigarette.

For the same reason most of them chew gum.
Habit
