to take impressionable children and fill their heads with stories about magic, invisible guys who count all their rights and wrongs, people turning into salt, giants talking plants on fire, talking animals. People have the ability unfortunately to fill their kids' heads with whatever crap they want. Does that make it right? Why not teach them that every magic fairy tale is true? Can't you see what a ridiculous load of garbage it all is?

People believe that children cannot process the word no. I think that is bunk. No child should have to figure out or sort out what they are being told it's not the issue. The ability to listen to parents is all they need to know and all they can handle anything beyond that is immature on an adults part. At a young age the word no is sufficient because a child is way too young process anything beyond yes and no. If they are told to do something or not to do something that should be the end of it. Part of the reason parents of today go beyond that is they've allowed society to deem them spineless. Parents of today are totally confused by those who have different ideas planned for their children. No, it's not ok to see discipline as child abuse and if a parent goes along with this they have allowed themselves to be convinced to remove a child's right to learn from their child to suit society. In other words they may as well plan to visit governmental facilities in the future at their expense of course. Also take into consideration the parenting actions of a recent American traitor, although it was his adult choice, light weight parenting played a role I'm sure.

As far as children four and up any appropriate positive guidance written into children's stories is not wrong. Books for younger children should be full of words, pictures, colors, letters, numbers, etc. Let's not blow this out of proportion. Concerns should be directed towards suggestive text that encourages, suggests, AND condones inappropriate behavior and believe me it's out there with hopes that parents aren't aware of it.

I hope this question survives the duration, i asked a similar question and some 'gimp' on this site reported it as offensive and Yahoo removed it. Now that is part of the problem, the intolerant and biased views of some of the people on this site, who take easy offense at questions they either don't understand / disagree with or don't like.

I agree with your statement and do not really feel the need to add to it. But, imagine this

The world has a terrible world war, most of the planet is wiped out, only a few thousand humans survive, ALL books have seemingly been destroyed some years later, a book is found n the rubble in a country- The Lord of The Rings - in another devasted country,a survivor finds a book - the harry potter books!! What do you think would, and somewhere else another book is found - say something by Ron L hubbard!!

What do you think would happen? Would religions be formed?
Would societies be formed from these books? I do not know - but it seems to me that 'humankind' need to be lead, they need to follow, they are sheep! and until that pattern is broken, there will always be forms of brainwashing, in terms of religion, television, cinema, books, newspapers etc etc.

So you don't believe in the bible and you want to support your mind set by attacking people who do. So you believe you are born of the apes and that you are nothing special. You pray to the educated of the day, bow down to them and even pay them tiths in the form of fees. You have become all knowing and all wise in your own eyes and have become your own God.
Besides being small minded you seem to be dealing in a false reality. First off you think people care what you believe. We don't.
Second as there are thousands of years of people having a relationship with God i really do not think you lack of knowing God will not sway them or anyone. Third God does not reveal himself to everyone, some folks are going to hell and are marked out for such. Forth i am sorry your parents were not loving enoff to not educate you on the important thinks, but you are not going to raise my child and you are not educated correctly so why would anyone want a person like you educating anyone. Fifth, your teach about evoluation which is the greatest fairy tale every told.
Sixth, There is only one load of garbage i am seeing he is setting in your chair. Seventh, You seem to have gotten all the enjoyment you can from attacking parents who are raising there children according to there own faith and there rights as law abiding citizens. How about attacking people liek your self. You know snot nosed punks.

My parent had me in church everytime the doors were opened.
I learned all the bible stories you are referring to in Sunday School Class. Now that I am an adult, and I look back on my experience as a child, I think of these memories fondly. As a child, I think I did take the stories more literal than as an adult, but I don't feel abused.

No it is not right to do this but this is part of the paradigm in which we live at the moment and can be seen in everything from church to education. corporal punishment has been banned from most schools but the psychological harm is ongoing. It is wrong to teach people about Myth being truth, however a parent will think they are rightly or wrongly doing this for the childs sake, I do agree generally with your argument but if you reverse this is it then right for people to not teach one view point and not the other. if we do this then we are ultimately as selfish.

I look back fondly on the days I believed in Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, and the Tooth Fairy. It didn't hurt me at all. Don't be such a wet blanket.

Do you think it would be a form of abuse...

... to murder newborns because overpopulation is not in best interests of the group? or leave millions of Children orphans by murdering their parents for embracing Christianity? or to starve hundreds of thousands of children to death because their parents refuse to adopt millitant atheism?

Tell you what. I'll take my load of garbage over an atheist society any day. You can thank the Christians that you live in a society where religious teaching is considered "abuse," freedom of choice is deemed "brainwashing," and being told that your are going to hell is "having religious beliefs forced on you." Pray to Richard Dawkins that you never have to learn what 'abuse' really means.
