Happen to see a girl's profile on a matrimonial website and even though we weren't exactly an intellectual match (she's a molecular biologist, i am a capital markets professional), i got a bit carried away and contacted her. Needless to say, i didn't get any response. (I realized much later we never were meant to be.)

My question : In love, why do some people pursue or fall for people they know they can't have ? Is there some mentall satisfaction they derive from the " capture" or is it just the thrill of the chase ? Your thoughts....

and what makes you think you can't have her??? ... love, as any other matter in life, depends on the "right time", everything happens when it has to happen and because is suppose to happen, I am not talking about fate, I am talking about balance.

A person cannot define themselves by their career or whatever work they do--it isn't a fair assessment or measure of that person. Sure they had the integrity to go to schgool and successfully finish with a degree--but there are millions who do that. Some of the smartest and hardest working people are creeps and low lifes---and some low paid minimum wagers are the ones who stand tall and offer the most emotionally. People always give themselves away when they search for dates and choose someone who makes a lot of money, or has prestige on the job--seems as if they want something superfiscial out of a relationship. Set your sights on someone who offers what is really important in life--- the constant searching is a pattern---a hunt so to speak---and the prey is won using the same old techniques---then they move on to do it again--a big game.

Just personal opinion, but I have found that people tend to want what they can't have. People who have are determined to go for something that society brands as "too good for them", often feel empowered , even when the chase leads to nothing. Goals are healthy and can lift the spirits (your self esteem) in such a quick way. As long as it does not lead to feelings being hurt (which in most cases is next to impossible), it can be healthy.

I personally don't believe that people ever actually "know" that they'll never have a chance. Even if the person tells them they don't. I guess people go after what they "can't have" because they have hope that the other person will have a change in heart. They believe that their love/affection for this other person will be enough for he/she to realize that maybe it could work out. There's always hope, even if the other person says no.

you know what,i also don't know the exact answer of that!!!ha3...funny!but when it really comes to love many people can't answer too many questions.maybe because it is also like...when you love somebody, you are not thinking of the things why you love him/her..you can't chose the person whom you will love, right because it just come to you freely while you even not asking for it..so when the time comes that it will leave you...you must ready for it and i think be grateful that ones in your life he/she teaches you to love and be happy than nothing to experience it at all.

and love is everywhere and surely when the right time will come then you will tell yourself ah,maybe this is the reason why i lost the last love i have in the past...

so good luck for your journey in love!!! the password of life i think is LOVE so make life everyday...

I don't think either one is correct. I believe the reason is that some people in love pursue someone because he/she thinks of what could have been or what could actually happen.

i think what you felt is lust...love takes time but you can fall for someone who is special whether smart, artistic, etc. you may want to have someone in your life, and wanting to fill this you are filled with the "thrill" of the chase..until satisfied with the "capture" of another..
