My daughter will turn 4 next weekend. Would like to celebrate it with about a dozen of her friends. But since i don't have much time to spare, want to do it in a simple yet nice manner which the kids will enjoy with not too much preparation hassles for me.Any nice, easy suggestions for a theme-based party? Also can anyone also help me plan my menu to include mouth-watering dishes which I can easily make at home.(Menu to include items both for kids as well as elders)

Okay. The most simple themes are a color theme. For exaple if your daughter's favorite color is Purple** have a purple** party. Hand out purple** invitations*(instructions at bottom) in a purple** or white envolope. On the invite ask for the guests to come wearing an article of the same color. This makes decorating and cooking easy.

Decorating:

If it is an afternoon party hang colored garlands in the party area (if it is an evening party and you are holding it outside hang extra holiday lights). Buy purple** tablecloths and utensils and plates and cups for the tables. If you want a piñata get one of a purple heart, star or animal. Games like musical chairs are also fun but to stick to the theme decorate them with purple** string and flowers. Give the guests goody bags with pencils, candy and tiny notebooks in the same color.

Food and Cooking:

Snacks- Be sure to NOT give the guests a bunch of REALLY sugared snacks since the worst thing to have is a bunch of hectic and sugar-rushed 4 yr olds. Creative and tasty treats include:

Ants on a log (celery peanut butter and raisins.)
Chips
SOME candy
Sandwiches
Popcorn

Main (lunch or dinner)- Mac and cheese is always a hit with parents and kids. It's easy and quick to make. If you are thinking of having a "sit at a table for a meal" meal a nice pasta is nice to. Remember if you choose a color themt yu can also have the food that matches the color (tomato sauce on pasta=red, pesto on pasta=green, cheese=orange.) Another ALWAYS hit is PIZZA!!!!! The party treat of the times.

THE CAKE- Possibly the most important part of the party for the kids. BAKE a cake yourself with a box of mix and a pan. This is fun and a great way to have fun with your daughter. It also shows her you care and you feel proud that you did it no matter what the final outcome (you also save money). Decorate the cake with your daughter by applying purple** icing and having her decorate it with M&Ms and candy bits. If you want to have another treat bake cookies and cover them with purple** frosting.

*= How to make a purple invite. Get purple**, white and silvergold card paper. Cut them into rectangles each 1 smaller than the other. Glue them on top of each other and write the info on the top card with a purple or silver glitter gel pen.

**= Purple is used in the content as an example for a possible color themed party.

I hope everything works out and wish your daughter a Happy Birthday from me. :-D

That is terrible! Birthday parties make good memories for young children! I stopped parties when I turned 10... but I kept memories from being really little still - all these years. Why would you want to take that away from your child? I'd celebrate the birthday on March 1st, because no matter what, it is the day after the 28th. This is very wrong, and unfair and I hope the mother changes her mind.

1. 4-year-olds will eat dirt if you let them, so don't worry about making your food "mouth-watering" for them. Cake will be fine. (Just make regular grown-up food for their parents.)

2. Again, they're 4-year-olds. Their theme will be "running around and screaming" no matter what you plan. I would try simply making sure that they have some games and toys (balls, etc.) they can amuse themselves with. Something that they can have fun with themselves while you and the other parents keep an occasional eye on them.

Basically, just like a rocket launch is a "controlled explosion," so is a party of 4-year-olds. They're gonna run riot, so just plan for that from the get-go. Good luck!

Take the theme as animal kingdom. Ask them to come dressed as an animal. So you have a fancy dress competition. Invitation cards should have animals on it. Begin the party with animal masks. Have animal games, and animal soft toys as prizes or give away gifts. Have chola puri and fruit salad as the main dishes. There's no end to the ideas that flow... just think and see what all you can do! Have fun! Happy Birthday to your cute little 4 year old!

Have a barbecue! Kids and elderly can enjoy food from barbecue and it's easy to do. As for the theme: it depends on what your daughter likes. Mine likes all the girly stuff, so I just buy a cake and party hats to match the theme and put up some simple streamers to match as well. Have you asked her what kind of party she'd like to have?

When the kids arrive write numbers on there hands ( 1 child has no.1 the next child has no.2 and so on) that way you can draw raffles all day. when you call out " time for a raffle " the kids will go bananas. Pass the parcel is fun that way too. no music just numbers being called.

All little girls dream of being a princess. why not have a princess birthday - if boys are coming call it a Royal Party
Boys dress up as kings, girls dress up like princesses - a door prize goes to the kid that is dressed up best.
you can play old fashioned games like tug of war, races,
for food you can serve royal jello, royal fried chicken, royal potatoes....etc....good luck
