made a fool of my self a week ago turkish friend sent me photo of his new daughter i saw gorunt beside picture and thought that was her name!! i know dont say a word!! i laughed for days when someone told me what it meant! but im back he emailed me, her name is Umay how do you pronounce it in english is it oo as in moon??

yes, umay's letter "u" might be pronounced as "oo" as in the word "moon", also, "a" is pronounced as "u" as in the word "us".

you can listen how turkish words or letters pronounced after registering. maybe u cant find turkish names' pronounce, but u can join the letters together by listening them one by one :))
in turkish, the pronounce is just like as the word is written. from this sight, english doesnt make sense. for example, "xerox" is pronounced in english just like its first letter is "z". in turkish you dont memorize pronounces of words, u read as you see the word. :) so if u want to learn turkish, turkish will be quite easier than any language once you started to learn.
