In general day to day cases, no. They have no right. And your doctors surgery has a duty under the data protection act, and patient confidentiality rules, not to disclose the information.

I am assuming this is not a Workers' Compensations case. If it is then that changes things. However, assuming it is not, no your job should not be able to find out from the doctor's office if you have had an appointment or not. There are laws that cover your privacy. They are called HIPPA regulations and they are very strict. No one should be able to get any information from your physician's office without your WRITTEN consent. In many states it is legal for your job to ask for you to bring a written statement saying you have been to the doctor. I believe this only applies if your job is paying for your time off from work because of medical reasons.

Yes they can ring up,no details will be given as to why you went there,but an appt and time can be given but its up to the person on the end of the phone at the time.

they probably can't inquire of the doctor but they have the right to demand a doctor's note from you to verify attendance
