Cautions are removed after 6 months or your 18th birthday which ever is the longer. any other records are kept permanently by the police

It's long gone!
If the police can't even keep track of paedophiles, rapists, murderers and illegal immigrants for more than a few days at a time, I would NOT worry about a caution you received in 1987!

the definitive answer on this question is YES!

Your police national computer (PNC) Holds records of any arrests, reprimands, final warnings, cautions and convictions you have.

the only ones that drop off are caution, reprimands and final warinings recieved as a juvenile.

But technically if you only have a caution, you dont have a criminal record, and dont have to disclose it to emplyers unless they specifically ask you if you have a caution or Police record.

If you were a juvenile then it could have been erased but you dont say what offence though assuming it wasnt too bad if you were cautioned

if it is in the UK and you have not been in trouble since, there is a thing on the Police National Computer called Back record conversion. this means your record is still on there but will not show what the offence was. it will just have name dob and your criminal record number

Its just more big brother.
Can't remember when it was brought in though.
