Here is a list of forms your friends will need to file to adjust the status of his wife to Permanent Lawful Resident:

Form I-130 Sponsor to Immigrate - This should be completed by the US citizen.

Form I-485 Accept to Immigrate - This should be completed by the intending immigrant ie: non-US citizen.

Form I-864 Affidavit of Support - This should be completed by the US citizen to show that he/she has the funds available to support him/herself and his/her spouse.

Form I-765 Employment Authorisation Document - Allows the Immigrant to gain work whilst the petition to adjust status is being considered. Tell your friends not to make the mistake we made and not file this form as it will hold up their case. The USCIS website says you don't have to file it as you will get one when you adjust status but in reality you do otherwise it will delay your application.

Form I-131 Application for Travel Document - This will allow the Immigrant to leave and re-enter the US whilst the case is pending.

Form G-325A Biographic Information - One to be filled out by the US Citizen and one by the Immigrant.

Form I-693 Medical Exam - This only needs to be filed if the intending immigrant did not have a medical exam in his/her own country when applying for a Fiance Visa. If no fiance visa was filed because he/she was already in the US the chances are this needs to be filed.

Tell your friends to read everything carefully and re-read the instructions otherwise things could be missed and it will delay the application.

If she came into the US on a K visa, she needs to file a I-485 to change her status to permenant residance status before her k visa expires. Best thing to do is check the USCIS website at www.uscis.gov and get their toll free number and talk to an actual person and find out what is needed.
