The Bible says that the last days will be marked by some serious events:
*“Nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom.” (Matthew 24:7) Millions of people have been killed in wars during the past century. One British historian wrote: “The 20th century orldwatch Institute states: “Three times as many people fell victim to war in [the 20th] century as in all the wars from the first century AD to 1899.” More than 100 million people have died as a result of wars since 1914. Even if we know the sorrow of losing one loved one in warfare, we can only imagine such misery and pain multiplied millions of times over.

*“There will be food shortages.” (Matthew 24:7) Researchers say that food production has increased greatly during the past 30 years. Nevertheless, food shortages continue because many people do not have enough money to buy food or land on which to raise crops. In developing countries, well over a billion people have to live on an income of a dollar or less a day. The majority of these suffer from chronic hunger. The World Health Organization estimates that malnutrition plays a major role in the deaths of more than five million children each year.

*“There will be great earthquakes.” (Luke 21:11) According to the U.S. Geological Survey, since 1990 alone an average of 17 earthquakes per year have been powerful enough to damage buildings and crack the ground. And on an average, earthquakes strong enough to cause total destruction of buildings have occurred yearly. Another source states: “Earthquakes have claimed hundreds of thousands of lives in the last 100 years and improvements in technology have only slightly reduced the death toll.”

*“There will be . . . pestilences.” (Luke 21:11) Despite medical advances, old and new diseases plague mankind. One report says that 20 well-known diseases—including tuberculosis, malaria, and cholera—have become more common in recent decades, and some types of disease are increasingly difficult to cure by means of drugs. In fact, at least 30 new diseases have appeared. Some of them have no known cure and are fatal.

PEOPLE OF THE LAST DAYS

Aside from identifying certain world developments, the Bible foretold that the last days would be marked by a change in human society. The apostle Paul described what people in general would be like. At 2 Timothy 3:1-5, we read: “In the last days critical times hard to deal with will be here.” In part, Paul said that people would be

▪ lovers of themselves

▪ lovers of money

▪ disobedient to parents

▪ disloyal

▪ having no natural affection

▪ without self-control

▪ fierce

▪ lovers of pleasures rather than lovers of God

▪ having a form of godly devotion but proving false to its power

Have people become like that in your community? No doubt they have. There are people everywhere who have bad traits. This shows that God will soon act, for the Bible says: “When the wicked ones sprout as the vegetation and all the practicers of what is hurtful blossom forth, it is that they may be annihilated forever.”—Psalm 92:7.

Yes,fulfillment of Bible prophecy points to this time we are living in as the "last days".This doesnt mean the end of the world, only the world of disobedient and wicked mankind.
Jehovah created the earth to remain forever.(Isa.45:18).
Details of the composite sign confirming these as the last days can be found in the Bible at Matthew Chapter 24;Mark Chapter 13 and Luke Chapter 21.Also 2Timothy Chapter 3:1-5.
It doesnt have to be scary as you say. What you need to do is study the Bible and learn what Jehovah requires of us if we are to survive the end of this system.
Jehovahs Witnesses have a accurate and thorough understanding of God's Holy Word and would be only too happy to conduct a free home bible study with you.Why not go to your local Kingdom Hall and ask someone there.

I think you're looking at the "pronunciation" line in that lexicon dictionary result. I imagine that means that's how the word for "god" in Aramaic is pronounced. And I'm guessing those capital letter indicate which of the letters and marks would be written out in Aramaic script, since (like Hebrew) the written Aramaic word would not have printed most of the vowels. .

Even at the time of the first christians these people believed they were already living in the "last days" and even they believed jesus would return within their lifetime.
ALWAYS throughout history terrible things were going on like war, pestilence and the like, and always people believed in bad omens and that the end of the world was near.
It is a running gag, nothing more.

That is one of the prophecies of the Bible, there are many more. Although Jesus said that no one knows the day or the hour of His return, He does say that we can determine the season when we begin to see end time prophecies starting to take place.
Matthew 24:6 "You will be hearing of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not frightened, for those things must take place, but that is not yet the end.
Matthew 24:33 so, you too, when you see all these things, recognize that He is near, right at the door.

Yes, it is scary stuff.

If you'll look back into Bible prophecies, they ALL have come true exactly when and how they were told, to this day. More prophecies are yet to come to pass. And the prophecies about the final days are about to be fulfilled, we believe. The decline in morality, the war and turmoil in the world, changing weather patterns, changing political climates, events in Israel and the Middle East, the world becoming more and more secular and defying God, yes....these are told in the Bible. Your friend is right. Not all prophecies have come to pass yet, but the framework is being built, and they will happen. That is why Christians are so zealous about urging others to come to Christ. Now you know why.

Best wishes!

"all the disasters and the wars going on"
- these have always been going on. The only thing we added to the mix these last years are cameras everywhere and 24-hour 'news' channels.

Don't believe the end of days / rapture nuts.

Definitely are man...many prophesies are beginning to take place. It doesn't have to be scary though. Believe in Christ only He can take your fear away. I used to wig out a lot before I started reading the Bible, but after God showed me what was going on I could chill out. I will say though that if you don't believe you have every right to be scared.

Do not become a foot ball of others opinions. You will become shapeless within no time. Keep faith in the god almighty, try to decipher what others say, for what benefits - of course I call it as crowing. Do Your best whatever you undertake. Have a nice day in the end. Good sleep and rest will do wonders for you. Otherwise you may go to sleepless nights.

Have a nice time.

All of us have a world which is different in perception to other's world. Our world is going to come to an end any time. We should not speculate on other's world.
