I have 2 Burmese cats, sisters born and raised together, 2 years old, BOTH SPAYED, never been apart. BOTH HEALTHY, I HAVE ALREADY CONSULTED MY VET ABOUT THEIR PHYSICAL HEALTH.

Suddenly they have gone from being the best of friends to absolute hatred in a matter of 2 days. Jemima, always the dominant one, is making growling noises and "squawking", Ruby is cowering and hiding in terror, if they see each other they hiss and spit and then Jemima attacks viciously. It's really scary.

Neither are pregnant, they have been spayed.

Nothing new has come into the house, same food as ever, no other pets.

You say you've consulted your vet, did you take both cats together or have you just taken one cat?
If you've only taken one it will have come back with a strange and worrying scent on it which may have upset the other cat, causing difficulties. You could try something called feliway - you can get it from your vet as a spray or a plug in diffuser. Feliway gives cats the feeling of safety and security as it produces cat pheromones and settles the cat. Particularly useful if something strange has happened to upset the balance. The scent produced is not obvious to humans so it should calm your cats but not affect you. Talk to your vet about it.
Good luck.

I have two sister cats that had always gotten along, until their brother died. Now they act like my one sister & I do, we love each other, but fight all the time. That's just a sister thing, they will eventually stop and go back to normal. You may be their "mom" and they are vying for attention from you; even if you feel you give them the same amount, they might not believe it. Ruby is doing what she feels is best for her by hiding & cowering in terror. Jemima is feeling her oats, she's always been the dominant one & wants to make certain that Ruby realizes this for a fact. Once she feels she has proven her rank as number one, she will no longer feel the need to reinforce her toughness to poor Ruby. I doubt that Jemima will ever really HARM Ruby, she just wants to let Ruby know she CAN HARM her, that she is the Boss! Let them work it out on their own, otherwise it will take much longer for them to stop this behaviour. Good Luck ;-)

They may be just going through a phase and it should end soon. Cats have their little squabbles which can be big,all out battles. Cats do tend to be drama queens, hehe.

There can also be jealousy issues, maybe jemima feels the other one is getting more attention?

Another possibility (maybe even probability) is there may be another cat wandering around outside of your house and they can hear and smell it,creating tension. With Spring coming cats are going into heat, creating a lot of noise. You may not be able to hear it but your cats probably do and it will agitate them. They may be blaming each other for the distressing noise or scent.

Even spay/neutered cats will sometimes react to the yowls of queens in heat and other females will often get agitated. Even without hormones those instincts remain strong in some cats.

I have the same problem with two of my cats, they are mother and daughter. They used to get on fine then all over sudden mom started hissing and growling every time she crossed path with her daughter. Could be territorial as well if Jemima is the bossy one. I know it is scary but unless you want to separate them, you'll just have to see how it pens out. I've got 5 cats, the two girls and 3 toms (who occasionally fight) but the girls are definitely the worst. Typical female I say lol. No honestly, don't worry to much, I'm sure they'll get back to (near) normal. Mine are still hissing at each other but have not been fighting for ages. Good luck, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you and yours.

Set your alarm for 3AM some night and stay unsleeping till fairly after the time that your cat many times is going loopy. pay attention intently for any noises that is scaring him or putting him off. The 4AM area of if makes me think of that it may desire to be a practice. we've a freight practice that comes contained in the direction of the area around 4AM. it incredibly isn't any longer actual interior of attain so it became no longer waking us up, in spite of the undeniable fact that it incredibly afflicted the cats as quickly as we first moved it. in case you could decide what it triggering the loopy suits, then the vet you paintings for may be waiting to help you practice/calm the cat whilst that's taking place. reliable good fortune.

A friend of mine is going through this at the moment because one of her cats left the house for a few days and when it came back it's sister and previously best pal was horrible to it and now they don't mix at all. Had a similar problem with sibling cats when I took one to the vets, they didn't mix well for weeks afterwards - I only took him for a routine check too.

Hiya, Perhaps for some reason one has become jealous of the other, i have two cat's who don't really get on, but they are both showed the same love and affection, both fed at the same time and have the same treats. I bet you are just the same with your cat's showing no favouritism. Just carry on as you are and they should be tolerant of each other soon.

Not at all....
they aint crazy
did the one of em run away for a few days? Coz cats' minimum memory span is 2 days
same happened with my cats. They are sisters too, but one of them ran away for two days then came back. They d growl at each other 4 a few days but now they're gettin along well....
Try observing for a few more days... if not then consult a doc abt their mental health...
This one's jus somethin to share not related to ur q: A few other stray cats killed my old cat few years ago. Wen i asked the doc why cats kill cats, he said due to jealousy that it gets food so easily. Dunno how far its true... He must ve said it jokingly coz i was only a kid then

Try getting some Cammomile oil from your local health shop. When my cat got unruly and tear ar*ing around the house and shredding the furniture we would put a few drops of cammomile oil on the scruff of his neck and it would gradually calm him down. It doesn't hurt the cat and just helps them to find their happy place.
