Cross = Four directions, Four elements, Four seasons, Four stages of life.

Star of David = Unity of sky and earth, two triangles pointing both up and down. As Above, So Below. Or in Christianese, on Earth as it is in Heaven.

I do not need to imagine an AR as you put it. All I have to do is look at history. The cross and the swastika for that matter are to be found among the Minoans and were symbols to ward of evil good luck charms and the such. The cross was also a symbol in math as four lines extending at right angles from each other to infinity. I do not know how the star of David evolved but it predated the Jews by thousands of years.

I'm not sure what you mean by alternate reality, but the symbol of the star of David is shown at the Holocaust were Hitler killed all the Jews, the shape of the star of David is two triangles opposite of each other-the shield of David was a six pointed star,and from what I remember they followed this star to the manger where Jesus the baby of Mary Magdalene laid in the manger.
As for the cross, this is to remember that Our Lord Jesus Gave his life for us so that our sins could be forgiving, he said to the crowd as they hung him,"Forgive them Father, for they know not what they do."
