First of all it is "quashed", not squashed. Quashing a ticket means throwing it out. He in Ontario, Canada, you can take your ticket to the Justice of the Peace to have it quashed if there is something wrong with the ticket or you can ask to have the fine reduced or to given an extension on the time to pay the ticket.

It depends what the offence relates to.

A common point of defence to a speeding violation is that there was not proper notice of the speed limit. For example, the speed limit sign might have been hidden by bushes. Another is asking for confirmation (under the freedom of information act) of planning permission for the sign to be erected. It is also necessary for the police officer to have observed you speeding, so ask to see a copy of his pocket book.

If you are simply pleading mitigation rather than fighting the ticket, you will have to show necessity or safety.

In UK you can go to court and - even if you plead guilty - enter a "plea in mitigation". But have they already decided the amount of the fine? If so it does sound unlikely that they will reduce it. Court might allow time to pay or instalments

Take it you from SA I'm from there but live in the UK. Just tell them how sorry you are and mean it. You could have hurt someone or even killed someone. My cousin was killed 14 years ago by some one who speed-ed and he is still in prison for it in SA. Please think twice about your speed i know people are in a hurry but think, it could be you next time.
Good luck hope all goes well and it does go down.
