yes, it's a virus and warmfull sometimes, you should try to inter safe mode press shift before starting windows. then try to scan your pc, or if did not work, format your pc. but do you see countdown windows beofore shutting down? try safe mode ok.

too many possible causes for this.
look for some sign, maybe some thing sounds different on boot?
is it a medion?
does it actually get into windows....if not then likely a hardware problem.
if it gets into windows then a system file could be corrupt, then there are overheating, memory, component failures etc.
disable everything you have running in the background, remove it from the internet connection first if you have one, if it boots with nothing running and does not close down then you need to enable one at a time until it closes itself again....might be two progs conflicting, try all this before getting too worried and run the usual virus/adware/spyware scans to put your mind at rest.
if nothing of any value needs saving, a formatt and reinstall should cure it, as long as it is not hardware related

ok probably NOT a virus. Check your AC Adaptor first. Then check to see whether you notice anything unusual at start up. The laptop I have now starting to blink ever so slightly whenever it booted and it would spin the cd drive, as soon as I took the drive out VOILA! it worked fine. So morally of the story is, maybe something maybe shorting the system out. Also FYI most viruses restart your computer not shut it down.

Could be your pc is set to hibernation. To check this click on start>control panel>power options?along the the top thers a tab called hibernation if the box for hibernation is ticked? untick the box. Also go into the power scheme and from the pulldown boxes select never in all.

Could be a cooling issue too. Check the ventilation ports...or a fan could be busted.
Make sure you don't have the laptop sitting on bedding or pillows, because that inhibits air flow.

Go to Start, control panel and power options to see if you have the turn off hard disk set to never turn off
