Are you allowed to make phone calls from rehab?

Question

I know someone who is going into rehab in a couple of weeks and i'm not for sure if they will be able to call me or not.

Its court ordered rehab

i was court ordered to a 28-day drug and alcohol rehabilitation treatment center last may. when i first got there i was allowed a 5-minuted phone pass, but i had to use the phone at the nurses station. since phone time is a priveledge, after 5 days we were allowed to sign up for 10-minute phone times to be used in the evening. they sometimes monitor the calls and they strictly enforced the 10-minute time limit. you could call whoever you want, but usually family was all i had time for. also they would only let you make local calls unless you had a phone card. but if i were you i would urge your friend to stay off the phone and concentrate on getting clean and sober. the outside world can really f*ck you up and stress you out when you're trying to stay clean. i wish your friend luck, recovery is a lifelong process, it doesnt stop when you leave treatment.

He will probably have a ´blackout´ period where he is not allowed to call anybody. Maybe two weeks, more or less. After that, it might just be him calling when he thinks nobody is looking at him. If it is court-ordered there is a possibility, depending on the place, that he won´t be allowed to make any contact, unless family.

It all depends on the program if they are court ordered or if they are self admitted, Most people I know could receive visitors during certain hours but no calls it all depends,Just call the rehab center and ask them.
