The person writing LOL or lol describes his/her feeling at the moment of writing it - he/she is laughing out loud or, as already suggested by a previous answerer, finds your/somebody's answer/question/statement/comment as funny as it would make him/her laugh out loud.

lol stands for laughing out loud. it doesn't mean that the person is necessarily laughing.. but that they think something is funny.

ok so i say something funny or stupid...you say laugh out loud (lol). You are laughing at what I say. Get it? Get it?

I only use it in reaction to what someone else says that I find funny (and often but not always DOES make me laugh out loud), but some people use it to indicate that they are saying what they are saying in a light-hearted manner. (That usage bugs me to no end.)

It mean like if you read somthing posted that was funny you right back at them LOL meaning it made you laugh out load.
