With the exception of blaspheming the holy spirit.

It was a long time ago since I was in Catholic school, but I thought ALL sins can be forgiven if you are truly sorry. I seem to recall that if you say God cannot forgive a sin that in itself is a sin of pride since it makes something a man does greater than God's power of forgiveness.

The sin against the Holy Spirit cannot be forgiven only if it is willful and deliberate and the sinner refuses to repent. (See paragraph VIII of the article on the Holy Spirit in the New Advent Catholic Encyclopedia - link below)

Yes, and the sin against the Holy Spirit is understood to be the refusal to repent.

Yes, and they think a priest can forgive their sins at a confession booth. This is another reason I left the catholic religion and became a born again Christian. We are not to go to a man to repent sins, as only God can forgive sins. A priest cannot forgive his own sins, let alone anyone else's. One should only repent to God his sins through Jesus Christ our Savior.

Here's a great link that covers everything the Catholic Church believes:

http://catholic.com/library/Forgiveness_of_Sins.asp

They present the beliefs of the Church, historical backgrounds, as well as the scriptural basis for Catholic teaching. I think you'll really like it.

God bless.
